Principal's
Message
Dear Families,
Welcome back from the Thanksgiving Break. I hope you all had a
great Thanksgiving and were able to spend some quality time with
your family. It was great to have some time to relax and catch up
on life!
The next three weeks are going to be busy ones. Yes, there are
only three weeks until winter break. (The last day of school for
2010 is Friday, December 17th. We return to school on Monday,
January 3, 2011.)
On Wednesday, December 1st, we have the Book Fair. Students will
be visiting throughout the day and families are welcome to come
shop before and after school. It's a great time to stock up on
those holiday gifts. A portion of the profits goes to Crocker
Highlands. And the challenge is still on: if students read 5,000
books during the month of November, I will dress up as Captain
Underpants!
Do you or your child need to do some holiday shopping? The Crocker
Highlands Craft Fair is this Saturday, December 4th from 9:00 a.m.
- 12:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. It's a great time to come
out and buy some homemade crafts. The 4th grade will be selling
food goodies to help raise funds for their overnight trip to Coloma
in March. Come out and support the Crocker Highlands Crafters and
our 4th grade campers!
Report cards will be coming home on Friday, December 10th.
Teachers are busy scheduling and holding parent/guardian
conferences. In order to help teachers to schedule these
conferences, we are having additional minimum days on Thursday,
December 9th and Friday, December 10th. Mark your calendars.
Our Crocker Highlands football team will be having their
championship game on Saturday, December 11th. We will post the
time and location on the school website. I am sure they would love
to have the Crocker community there to support them!
The vocal music concerts are scheduled for Thursday, December
16th. Details regarding the concerts will be sent out this week
via the yahoo group and we will post information on the school
website.
I would like to end this message with a note about safety. Every
day after school, I spend time on the yard making sure students are
picked up. A lot of families hang out after school, visiting with
each other and giving their children time to play. This can make
matching children to adult caregivers a challenge. (I'm still
making those child-parent connections and then add in the other
caregivers - that's a lot of people to recognize!) You can help in
three ways. First, make sure the after-school plans are clear for
your child; make sure he/she knows who is meeting him/her after
school. Second, if you notice a child is not picked up, please let
me know or direct that child to the office for assistance. And
third, talk to your child about what he/she should do if someone
isn't there after school. (Go to the office and call an adult.)
Your help with this is needed and appreciated.
Have a great week!

Hosted
Parties: Meet Crocker Families & Help the
School
It is time to get creative! With the auction just over 3 months
away, think about hosting a super fun party or event (for adults or
kids) to donate to the auction and benefit Crocker. Previously
called "sign-ups," these hosted parties are extremely popular
offerings every year at the auction (Saturday, March 5, 2011). It
is a great way to get involved, raise money for your children's
school, and get to know more people. You can host it with other
people because planning it is half the fun! Feel free to come up
with your own great idea or get inspired by some of the events
listed below:
· 80's Prom Party: Dress in your worst Prom dress or 80's outfit
and party like its 1984. Other thematic ideas: 90s Grunge party,
70's Disco party, 60's Peace & Love party, etc.
· Ping Pong Dinner Party: Enjoy beer and brats while you play
tournaments to win the Crocker Ping Pong Trophy! Or do one for the
kids, sans beer.
· OktoberFest: Celebrate Fall Bavarian Style with food, drink
and entertainment. Other Ethnic Nights: Arabian, Greek, African,
Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Spanish/Mexican, Jewish Shabbat, etc.
etc. etc. Go crazy with ethnic foods and fare!
· Mother-Daughter High Tea: Dress up, eat yummy finger
sandwiches, and drink hot or cold tea on good china. Make it even
more special by doing it at the holidays!
· Flip Flops and Lemon Drops: Get professional pedicures while
sipping yummy Lemon Drops.
To see a more complete hosted party list from last year's auction,
go to
http://www.crockerschool.org/raisetheroof/Signup_ideas_2010.pdf.
The sign up form (also from last year) is available at
http://crockerschool.org/raisetheroof/signup_form_2010.pdf. Or
simply email president@crockerschool.org with your ideas. We hope
to have the auction website updated soon.
Thank you,
Wendy Ghorai & Nicole Radlow

PTA's Equity Committee
Community Dialogue Series: How Can We Create a Community At
Crocker Where EVERY Child and Family is Valued, Respected, and
Thrives?
Please join us this Thursday, December 2nd,
6:30-8:30 in the Crocker Library. Childcare and pizza
provided. Please RSVP for childcare to president@crockerschool.org.
This will be our 2nd session this year and we encourage prior
participants as well as new folks to come out and join us. At this
meeting, we will learn more about what equity means in our context,
build and strengthen relationships with one another, as well as
review and prioritize key equity issues generated at our last
meeting that we want to take action on this year.
Please feel free to contact us with questions or suggestions!

New
Conflict Managers Trained
Forty two 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders attended the Conflict Manager
Training this week and successfully learned how to be conflict
managers. An assembly will be held the week on November 30 to
introduce the new conflict managers to the rest of the school.
During the assembly, other students will learn how to use a
conflict manager and participate in the process. We want to thank
Marie Claude and Francois for generously opening up their home for
the training. Special thanks to the parent volunteers who helped
out. Without them, the training would not have been
possible.
