CSA Starts This Week
CSA 2017 is ready to launch! Please remember that deliveries come to different zip codes on different days. The full delivery list is on our blog; the group site list is repeated below.
Please remember that you must pick up your box on delivery day. All boxes contain perishable items that spoil easily, so any boxes that are not claimed within the designated pick-up window will be donated. Your host is not permitted to hold your box overnight.
If you won't be home when your box arrives, please provide a cooler for it, with ice packs. An hour in the heat will ruin many perishable items.
We'll have boxes available the first week; after that, we ask that you bring those boxes or some other container with you to reuse every week.
If you know in advance that you're going to miss your pick-up day, please
log into your account
as soon as possible and schedule a vacation hold. If unforeseen circumstances interfere with your pick-up, please email [email protected] or call 540-554-0247 as soon as you realize the problem.
Please remember to check in and get a wrist band before getting on the you-pick wagon, and please remember to sign out your weekly bonus.
Week 1 Shares Include: 1 bundle of asparagus, 1 bundle of spring onions, 1 bag of lettuce, 1 bag of arugula, 1 box of cherries, 1 basil plant.
Pick-your-own bonus:1 quart sweet cherries

Please note that bonus amounts do not carry over from week to week, and they are offered while supplies last.
Wagon rides to the fields will start at 9:15 sharp and continue at the top of every the hour until 5:00.
We update our Twitter @TheFarmerSays with the latest picking conditions, so be sure to follow us.
Bonus Value this week: $6.80
Year-to- Date Bonus Value: $60.94
What is the YTD Bonus Value? Each week we total up the market value of the bonus pick-your-own items. The value to date includes 8 quarts of strawberries, two bags of spinach, four bundles of asparagus, and a quart of sweet cherries.

Cook With What You Have
To help you make the most of every item in your weekly share, we've turned to an expert: Katherine Deumling. Her web site "Cook With What You Have" walks you through a week-by-week approach to seasonal eating, with recipes, templates, and techniques for using all the food in your box. Katherine will help you make the transition from searching for the ingredients to your favorite recipes to building meals around your seasonal ingredients.
Subscription to this resource is a benefit of your CSA membership. Your user name is Great Country Farms, and your password is greatcountrycsa2017. User name and password are the same for all CSA members, so please do not attempt to personalize them, and please do not share them with non-members.
Once you've logged in, click on the Recipes/CSA tab on the navigation bar. The system typically does not log you out, so you should have ready access for the rest of the season. We'll look forward to hearing about what you learn -- and to learning with you!
