GCF Membership Cards and Florida Tomatoes in the Market

We've kept your membership card in the market so we can say hello and welcome back the first time you visit the farm this season. Come to the counter to chat with us a minute and pick up your welcome package.

And while you're here, you might want to pick up a few of the tomatoes Mark and Kate brought home from Florida.

Egg Hunt Weekend

Our first festival of the year, the Egg Hunt and Marshmallow Harvest, takes place this weekend. We'll be picking peeps all day Saturday and Sunday, and the schedule for age-group egg hunts is posted on our website.

Trickling Springs
New feature in the market this season: organic milk from Trickling Springs Creamery.
Trickling Springs works only with farmers whose cows are pasture-raised and grass-fed, which means they produce milk that's fundamentally different from milk produced by feed-lot cows. It's much richer in Vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, and conjugated linoleic acid, which has been shown to combat a host of diseases.

We'll carry half-gallons of whole milk, 2%, and skim, all of which are homogenized, and we'll carry quarts of whole milk that hasn't been homogenized -- which means the cream will rise to the top of the bottle.

And bottle is the right word -- the old-fashioned glass kind, on which you pay a deposit.

If you like this milk and plan to buy it often, please let us know so we can order accordingly.

Run For Caden
in this year's 951 5-K
April 11

Run or walk this 5k race through the vineyards and orchards of Bluemont Vineyard. This challenging course takes you along gravel roads and paved roads and through scenic grass lands, and it ends with a half-mile time trial that gains 350 feet in elevation. At 951 feet, the finish line offers spectators and participants a great view of Loudoun Valley. This year Bluemont Vineyard and Bluemont Community Center are hosting together to benefit Caden Thorn, a local child who has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
To register for the 5k run/walk, go to  www.active.com . The cost is $45.00 per person -- no charge for people aged ten and under. There will be free wine tasting for all 5k runners (21 years and older). Get your cheering section up the hill before the race to support you, Bluemont Community Center, and most of all Caden!

"We absolutely love Great Country Farms! Last year was our first year subscribing to their CSA, and we loved it. Getting fresh fruits and vegetables of great variety delivered every week helped us discover new foods and recipes. Who knew kale chips were so good?"  --Robert B., Sterling

" We love this recipe! My Italian husband said it was the best asparagus preparation he had ever had. The trick is the get the asparagus crispy on the end and soft in the middle."
