August 1st, 2018

Dear Toastmaster,

We are in the middle of the summer, and you may have seen that there are many things happening in District 101. We are really going Above and Beyond to help all of us grow.

Meet your District Officers for this year, including your Area and Division Directors, on the District webpage . We are here to work with you to keep you and your club on the right track and to go Above and Beyond for a successful year. Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Join me in welcoming the members of our newly chartered clubs: Toastmasters Evelyn, Big Basin Toastmasters and Gilroy Toastmasters. Welcome to the District 101 family!

Do YOU have an idea for a new club? At your workplace, in your neighborhood or other community? When you do, please reach out to our Club Growth Director, LoAn Nguyen at growth@d101tm.org , She is here with her team to assist you through the process.

Summer is the time for Club Officers to attend Club Officer Training (COT) at a neighboring location. Pavan Dalta , our Program Quality Director, and I recommend registering and participating in a session as early and convenient as possible. Whether you are new to your role or a returning officer, there is much to learn and share while going beyond your club, and mingling with a group of like-minded members. You will be more effective in your role and bring your club to success while building transferable skills for your career.

Make use of the Club Success Plan to be as successful as possible . I encourage all of you to strategize on your goals and work as a team to give yourself the best shot at going above these original goals.

We want you to aim high and claim Lucky 7 (all 7 officers trained this summer), plan for a Stellar September (renew as many members as you can before September 15) and envision reaching Early Achievers (complete at least 5 Distinguished Club Program goals by October 31). All these District 101 programs are offered to help a club be successful, have vibrant meetings and attract guests who then become members. There is no need to enroll - simply reach those recognition levels by the deadline and reap the rewards. Check out the details for each program on the District website .

August is also the month for the International Convention and the International Speech Contest Semifinals and Finals where Gopi Kallayil will proudly represent District 101 in Chicago. If you cannot attend the Convention, plan a get-together with your club members or other clubs and watch it online .

LoAn, Pavan and I will be at the Annual Business Meeting where each club has a voice. If the club President or Secretary are unable to attend that meeting in person, they must designate a proxy in Club Central and indicate the club’s selection for the elections. If no club representative will be in Chicago for that event, it will be my duty to be your proxy. The club will need to indicate so in Club Central. You can find more information about the candidates for the Board of Directors , International office and the proposal online.

There is no District Conference in the Fall this year, but we are planning an event for us to get together and learn through educational sessions on communication and leadership. It will take place on a Saturday between mid-October and mid-November. Stay tuned for details in the coming weeks.

I would like to see every one of us visit at least one other club in the coming couple of months to go beyond our home club’s environment. We will all gain a new perspective on how to do things differently. And while you are planning your visit(s), make sure to check the Club Ambassador Program and file the report within a week after your visit.

I look forward to going Above and Beyond with all of you.
