Save the date:
2nd annual Community Honor Roll celebration will be held Friday June 29th at Fleetwood-Jourdain (1655 Foster Street-Evanston) at 7:00 p.m.
All students completing grades three through eight are eligible for the ceremony if their GPA is B (3) or higher. Families of students who wish to participate must submit their child's original report card to Family Focus on or before Monday, June 11th at 5:00 p.m. Family Focus is located at 2010 Dewey.
Community Honor Roll Celebration is made possible through a collaboration between Evanston/Skokie District 65, Weissbourd-Holmes Family Focus Center, Fleetwood-Jourdain center and the Evanston North Shore Branch of the NAACP. For more information, contact Family Focus at 847 475-7570.

This week's announcements open with a sad note as the District 65 community mourns the loss of Mrs. Patricia Mitchell, former principal of Bessie Rhodes Magnet School. Mrs. Mitchell passed away today from cancer. Her family will hold a private service with plans for a memorial in the future. During her almost 30 years of service to District 65 families, Mrs. Mitchell touched the lives of so many. She began her career in the District as a kindergarten aide in 1980, went on to become a Walker School teacher, a central office administrator, and school principal first at Dewey Elementary (from 1991 to 1998), and then at Bessie Rhodes (formerly Timer Ridge) Magnet School from 1998 until her retirement in 2009. We offer our sincere condolences to her family and to the many faculty and staff to whom she was a friend and colleague. District 65 schools and offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 28.

District 65's annual Ron Risch track and field meet has a new date, time and set up this year. Instead of the planned Saturday June 2nd event, The event will be held in two sessions on Tuesday May 29th at ETHS at 4:45 p.m. for middle schoolers and on Thursday, May 31st at ETHS at 4:45 p.m. for elementary students.

Chute's Geometry Class and Advanced Art Class have teamed up to create a MINI GOLF COURSE! And are hosting a Family Play Night on May 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 in Chute Middle School's gym. Come One Come All! Park School's Family Fun Fest is Thursday, May 31st from 6 to 8 pm at 828 Main Street. Join the fun with games, prizes, food, an auction and more! For more information about this event, contact the school at 847 859-8590.
The sixth annual Nichols Has Heart walk-a-thon will be held Friday, June 1st at noon, starting at Nichols Middle School! This year the walk-a-thon will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and is sure to be the best one ever. The "Nichols Has Heart Walk-a-thon" has evolved into a wonderful event celebrating the wonderful memories of a great teacher and providing a great way for students to learn about giving back to their community.
Oakton School Garden Poetry Jam will be held on June 4th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. when 1st and 2nd grade students will present their original works of poetry, plays, and stories about the Oakton School Garden. For more information, contact the school at 847 859-8800.
Working Board of Education meeting - June 4 public session begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the JEH Education Center.
