Yesterday, the Ethics Review Board presented their recommended changes to the City’s Ethics Code and Municipal Campaign Finance Code to the City Council.
The board has worked on these improvements for over two years, met with each council member, and presented to the Governance Committee and the City Council twice. The recommendations they presented yesterday were nearly identical to those we heard last year and for a good reason: they are right for our City.
These recommendations reflect input I’ve heard directly from residents. Among others, they include common-sense updates, such as:
- Limiting the entertainment gifts councilmembers can receive;
- Requiring candidates to disclose campaign contributions from developers seeking City support on proposed affordable housing developments;
- And requiring candidates to disclose campaign contributions from the lawyers who represent people seeking zoning changes.

While some continue to say that our system isn’t broken, I have heard directly from District 7 residents about the need for improvements. We had the opportunity to act on these recommendations last year and chose to wait. Choosing to pass up this opportunity yet again sends the wrong message.
I’ll continue to push for the adoption of these recommendations. Making our government processes more transparent and fair cannot wait. Let’s do the right thing and strengthen our City’s Ethics and Municipal Campaign Finance Codes.

Mayor's Housing Policy Task Force

The Mayor's Housing Policy Task Force will present their recommendations to the City Council this coming

Wednesday night, CPS Energy invited the public to learn more about their Flexible Energy Plan and to take part in a Citizens To Be Heard session with their Board of Trustees. Currently, CPS Energy's Board of Trustees does not have a regular Citizen's To Be Heard section at their meetings. This was one of Councilwoman Sandoval's expressed wishes when she supported Dr. John Mackie's appointment to the Board, who agreed to work to expand CPS Energy's public input channels.

Last Saturday, Councilwoman Sandoval joined neighborhood advocates from all over the city to deliver the keynote address at the Bowen Center for Neighborhood Center's annual Neighborhood Day. She spoke about the importance of responsible growth, the progress we've made improving how we fund street maintenance, and the need to reexamine how the City distributes funding for drainage projects. City Council recognized Women Veteran's Day today, June 14. Today, City Council and the District 7 Office recognize and appreciate the sacrifices and contributions women have made to ensure our country's safety.

Councilwoman Sandoval attended the recent graduation of SAPD's newest class of police cadets last Saturday. Congratulations to all of the new members of the San Antonio Police Department--we look forward to your service.

safeTALK Training for Suicidal Awareness

According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, each day around 20 veterans commit suicide. With your help, we can save lives. Please join the Disrict 7 Office of Councilwoman Ana Sandoval for a half day safeTALK training for suicidal awarenesss. This free event will be hosted by the District 7 Office and led by the District 7 City Commission on Veterans Affairs appointee, Ramon Gonzales (LPC) who will be teaching techniques on identifying and intervening with individuals with suicidal thoughts. CEU's will be provided at no additional charge.
There are two opportunities to join us on
June 18 at the Rape Crisis Center (4606 Centerview Dr, Suite 200).

NHSD seeks community input regarding boundaries, bylaws, and minimum expectations of registered Neighborhood Associations. The
current policy was last updated in 2011, and outlines requirements and procedures for registration, updates, and removal. Policy revisions are anticipated to be presented to City Council in Fall 2018, following extensive public outreach.

San Antonio Enters Stage 2 Drought
|
|
San Antonio has been under Stage 1 drought restrictions for less than a month, but dry, hot conditions have caused the Edwards Aquifer 10-day average to drop to 650 feet, requiring Stage 2 water restrictions.
Stage 2 of the city’s drought plan is triggered when the 10-day average of the Edwards Aquifer at the J-17 monitoring well drops to 650 feet or below. According to the city’s Aquifer Management Plan ordinance, coming out of drought stages can be considered 15 days after the aquifer is above the trigger.
Watering restrictions are not suggestions – they are municipal laws that will
be enforced. Watering days stay the same in Stage 2 as in Stage 1, however the hours during which watering is allowed are shortened. Watering with a sprinkler, irrigation system or soaker hose is allowed only between 7-11 a.m. and 7-11 p.m. on your designated day. Watering with a hand-held hose is still allowed any time on any day.
Watering days are determined by the last number of your address:
- 0 or 1 – Monday
- 2 or 3 – Tuesday
- 4 or 5 – Wednesday
- 6 or 7 – Thursday
- 8 or 9 – Friday
- No watering on the weekends

saws.org/WaterWaste. Customers can also call SAWS Conservation at 210-704-SAVE (210-704-7283). Please provide as much information as possible, including location, time of day, a brief description of the problem, and how long it has been
going on.

Proposed Comprehensive Land Use Categories

The Planning Department invites the community to review the Proposed Comprehensive Land Use Categories.
The City of San Antonio Planning Department has been working with the community to update the City's future land use categories. The updated future land use categories will implement the SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan and provide the City with an easily understandable and flexible land use framework.
City Council will vote on the proposed land use categories on Thursday, June 20.
