As DCCF's Executive Director, I spend a lot of my time out of the office meeting with a diverse cross section of community stakeholders. As a proud and self-professed philanthropy nerd, I'm always excited to introduce someone to the concept of a community foundation for the first time.

So, really-what do we do here anyway? The heart of it is that, as your local community foundation, DCCF's mission is to improve the quality of life for those living and working in Delaware County. We aim to make this community a better place for all. How we do this is through philanthropy -- generated by and benefiting the local Delaware County community.

Through DCCF, individuals, families, nonprofits, and businesses have the opportunity to create lasting philanthropic legacies. Some have special short-term projects that we administer. But for many, we serve as the permanent way that community members give back, through the generations.

DCCF AWARDS $15,500 in SCHOLARSHIPS TO DELAWARE COUNTY STUDENTS

Lansdowne High Class of '53 Scholarship Fund
DCCF is pleased to announce that, this year, it has awarded 15 scholarships totaling $15,500 to deserving students from Delaware County. The scholarships, provided by endowed and non-endowed funds managed and administered by DCCF, assist students from Delaware County with furthering their education.

Through DCCF's scholarship funds, we support the mission of donors whose goal is to help make higher education accessible to deserving but underprivileged students from Delaware County.

Each newsletter, we'll put the spotlight on some of the people who have chosen to start a fund with the Delaware County Community Foundation.

"We're just a bunch of ordinary people who wanted to do something good." That's what Richard Haines says about the Lansdowne High School Class of '53 Scholarship Fund.

Haines, who is retired and lives in New Hampshire, and many of his fellow classmates of the Lansdowne Class of 1953 still keep in touch regularly. The idea to create a scholarship fund came up during one of the group's get-togethers, and it was well-received by the class. They started the fund with DCCF in 2008.....
