New report looks at modernizing Florida's school grading system
Jacksonville Public Education Fund released a policy brief examining the current school accountability system and proposes ways to update it to meet today's needs.

On January 6, by a 6-1 vote, the State Board of Education voted to pass Commissioner Pam Stewart’s proposed Florida Standards Assessment cut scores and school grades thresholds.

    Spring Leadership Workshops


    Please register for the workshops you plan to take, especially Presidents and Treasurers who have not yet completed our REQUIRED annual training.

    Join us for our Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Fair . So far, the following agencies will be on hand to provide information and answer your questions:

            Epilepsy Foundation
            Project Chance

     VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
    The Teacher Supply Depot is bursting at the seams!
    And unfortunately, volunteers are down...
    Please take a moment at your next Board meeting to try and find a date
    that 4-5 of your Board members could spare 2-3 hours and help out at the Depot.
    Chris Buckley works VERY hard to accommodate 
    our October General Meetings every year  and we know 
    everyone LOVES the opportunity to "shop" for supplies after the meeting.

    First year and Returning Presidents and Treasurers MUST take DCCPTA's required Treasurer training EACH YEAR:  
    Our Winter workshops on January 30 are your last opportunity this school year to take the required training. Please REGISTER for the workshop HERE.

    How's Your Budget Doing?

    January is a good time to make a quick review of your budget to actual numbers and see if you will need to make any adjustments. See page 28 in Dollars & Sense in your Kit of Materials for a list of items to consider.

    If you see that you DO need to make adjustments, they must be approved by your General Membership at a General Meeting.

    Catch’em Being Good: The Benefits of Positive Reinforcement

    Tuesday, January 19, 2016,  8:00-9:00 pm.

    The Florida PTA Exceptional Child Committee presents this special conference call in which they will be discussing the importance and impact of words.

    Giving real life examples, Allicia Walford will discuss the benefits of positive reinforcement to turn around behavior and get the cooperation we parents seek from our children.

    Using research and research based techniques, she will discuss and answer questions about changing negative interactions into positives ones.


    Would YOU like to attend the FLPTA Legislative Conference in Tallahassee, representing DCCPTA?

    DCCPTA has sent a local unit to the conference on a scholarship in past years, but this year we didn't have time to do the application/review process.

    Again this year we will be featuring photos of all of the hard work local units have performed on behalf of their students, teachers and families over the past year in a slideshow at the P&P Luncheon.

    Please send 2-3 of the best photos you have to Rick Godke ([email protected]). Be sure to include the name of your PTA in the photo somewhere or include a note to Rick with PTA Name and the event.

    Health & Safety News

    Tuesday, January 26, Drug Free Duval Lunch and Learn: 
    12:00 pm - 1:30 pm at Nova Southeastern University
    Join DFD as they launch their spring Lunch and Learn series!
    They will take a closer look at their strategies to inspire action, empathy and support in the community to improve the health of every citizen each day.
    First on the list is a wildly successful program – Know The Law – appropriate for both youth and adults. Program is FREE, but please RSVP if you would like the FREE lunch.
