New Law, New Dollars and New Enrollments

Celebrating July 4 th reminded us of the opportunity we have to help shape our laws, including those that impact people with intellectual and developmentally disabilities (IDD). A s a result of new state legislation (legislation which DDRC helped to foster), much needed new resources are making their way to the IDD community! This May, the Colorado legislature passed HB 18-1407, “Access to Disability Resources and Stable Workforce,” and Governor Hickenlooper signed the bill into law.

The legislation addresses the long waiting list for comprehensive services by funding 300 new individuals who are waiting for residential services. It also funds an increase for direct support professionals’ overall compensation.

Individuals who have been on the waiting list the longest are offered access to these services. Of the 300 new resources allocated across the state, approximately 50 have been allocated to those in the DDRC service area.
Additional Comprehensive Resources Released for Those Long-Waiting

Good news! Earlier this summer, Colorado’s Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) announced the release of 168 additional comprehensive resources for individuals and families who have been on the statewide waiting list the longest.

Of the 168 resources allocated across the state, approximately 41 were distributed to DDRC for people in our service area. If an individual or family chooses not to use the resource, the funds will go back to the state for redistribution.
DDRC Resource Coordinators are now contacting those on the wait-list to clarify their specific needs for a residential setting and supports, and to coordinate with providers as families decide what services to choose. We appreciate the timely response of families and providers in this crucial process!
Do Meaningful Work! Be a Host Home Provider
DDRC is seeking people in the metro-Denver area to become a Host Home Provider by opening their home or apartment to a person with an intellectual or developmental disability, and to provide that person with responsible, caring help appropriate for their needs. It's like adult foster care.

For “doing good” and providing a warm, stable home, you’ll be compensated with tax-exempt pay and you can work from your home. Compensation varies depending upon the level of need of the person in your care.

What does it take to be a Host Home Provider? You need to be caring, committed, responsible and interested in helping a person with a disability live a more connected life in their community. You need a clear background check and good driving record. You must be willing to complete or have CPR/1 st Aid Certification (training available), and be a Qualified Medication Administration Professional (training available). Host Home Providers must also be 19 years old or older.

For more details about the role and requirements, and to apply, see our DDRC website and email Ian Pipping, DDRC QLO Assistant Director at [email protected].
Children with Autism Waiver Ends

The Colorado Children With Autism Waiver (CWA) ended effective June 30, 2018. The Pediatric Behavioral Therapies benefits previously offered by this waiver are now available via EPSDT ( Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment).

If you have questions or would like to explore other funding options for behavioral services please contact your Resource Coordinator or our DDRC receptionist (at 303-233-3363) who will direct your call.
