FEATURES
DMDII Provides $1.2M for Collaborative Effort to Lower Product Design and Manufacturing Costs

Penn State industrial engineering researchers will work with experts from Rolls-Royce (the lead institution), Georgia Tech, Boeing, John Deere, and Sentient Science,  to develop an advanced framework that will allow engineers to share and process engineering data, as well as formally represent design and manufacturing-related knowledge throughout the product design lifecycle.

The 18-month, $1.2 million project is funded by the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute.  >>
IEEE Warren D. White Award for  Ram M. Narayanan

The professor of electrical engineering and IEEE Fellow was recognized by the institute's Aerospace & Electronics Systems Society for "contributions to high resolution radar system development, signal processing, and applications."  >>
NIH Pathway to Independence Award for Xiao Liu

The assistant professor of biomedical engineering will use the three-year, $750,000 grant for his project, "Neural Basis of Resting-state Functional Connectivity." His methods have applications for understanding how the brain uses energy in the resting state, as well as for diagnosing neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia.  >>
Fast Capture of Cancer Markers Will Aid in Diagnosis and Treatment

Penn State researchers have developed nanoprobes to rapidly isolate rare markers, called extracellular vesicles (EVs), for potential development of precision cancer diagnoses and personalized anticancer treatments.   >>
ACI Walter P. Moore, Jr. Faculty Achievement Award for Ryan Solnosky

The research associate in architectural engineering was recognized with the American Concrete Institute's top award for junior faculty for "excellence and innovation in the teaching of concrete design, materials, or construction."  >>
Gaming Helps Personalized Therapy Level Up

Using game features in non-game contexts, computers can learn to build personalized mental and physical therapy programs that enhance individual motivation, according to Penn State engineers. Conrad Tucker, assistant professor of engineering design and industrial engineering, is leading the research efforts.  >>
