Friends and Colleagues,
As we begin the new year, one of the enduring priorities for the department is the recruitment of excellent faculty members who will help us advance our goal of becoming one of the very best Departments of Medicine nationwide by 2020.

One key aspect of this recruitment effort is a program that we’ve developed to recruit interdisciplinary faculty. With support from the School of Medicine, we’ve allocated funds to recruit up to 10 outstanding interdisciplinary research faculty from outside institutions over the next 3-5 years. The goal of this initiative is to catalyze new collaborations that bridge scientific and clinical disciplines within the department and the broader CU Anschutz research community. While several potential candidates have been identified so far, this will be a multi-year effort and I encourage all DOM faculty members to review the RFA and work with their division heads to bring forward top candidates on an ongoing basis.

I’m also pleased that we’ve made substantial progress in recruiting two leadership positions that will help shape the growth of our department over the next several years. Search committees have identified several extremely qualified candidates to head our new Division of Hospital Medicine and other top candidates to direct our Internal Medicine Residency Training Program; campus interviews and recruitment seminars are being scheduled for these candidates, and I’m optimistic that we’ll be able to recruit outstanding leaders for both of these positions.

Finally, I’d like to note that our ability to recruit and retain excellent faculty members is influenced by the culture we create here in the department. Your engagement in the department’s efforts to improve faculty advancement, gender equity and diversity/justice are important and impactful; I appreciate your support and welcome your thoughts about these matters.

DOM Resources: Faculty Evaluations
Performance evaluations for the 2016 calendar year are underway in PRiSM. All regular faculty evaluations must be completed, reviewed by division heads and submitted to SOM Faculty Affairs by March 1, 2017. In order to meet this deadline, faculty are encouraged to submit their self-appraisal by January 31, 2017 (self-appraisal deadlines may vary by division). At this time, faculty with primary appointments in affiliate organizations are not required to complete a PRiSM appraisal, but should instead follow appropriate performance evaluation procedures at their affiliate location.

Several efficiencies were implemented this year in PRiSM, a summary of which is outlined in the Welcome message which displays when accessing the 2016 form. These changes include separate sections for performance appraisals and dossier preparation.

Additional details, PRiSM login information, FAQs and contact information can be found on the DOM Faculty Advancement Office career development page.
