The Log Editorial: Impending decision of Dana Point Harbor manager is tainted

We thought we should share this an editorial, from The Log that first appeared online last Wednesday concerning the final interviews for selection of a new Dana Point Harbor Manager. We also wanted to provide a quick status update.

Regarding status, the final one-on-one interviews were all completed early last week. Those six most qualified candidates had been selected following four-person panel interviews conducted two weeks ago. The 16 candidates interviewed two weeks ago had been selected from a candidate pool of over 60 applicants. We were advised last Thursday by OC Parks Director Stacy Blackwood and Division Manager Bill Reiter that if all goes well, they're expecting that our new Dana Point Harbor Manager will start work in about six weeks or less.

As for the editorial, our take is that we are less interested in seeing the sausage being made here than we are in the final results. Depending on outcome, we'll have a lot to say here. You can count on that. However, so far we're impressed by OC Parks ongoing stakeholder involvement and commitment to transparency, as well as the resulting impact on their decision-making process. And so we're expecting that the best qualified and most appropriate candidate will soon be announced.
