MIDSUMMER Memory #6

Getting ready for DSF's 2012  A Midsummer Night's Dream, each month we'll hear the memories of a participant in the inaugural 2003 production.

Nancy B. Lynch - DSF Board Chair

Mostly I remember it was magical.

I took my teenaged daughter (who later studied acting in college and served apprenticeships with DSF for two summers). We were greeted by a charming gentleman who helped us find just the right spot for our low beach chairs and offered us complimentary insect repellent. A year or so later I learned the gentleman was Bob Cahill, father of the founding Artistic Director, Molly Cahill Govern, and who went on to serve on the DSF Board of Directors and as Head Usher for nine years.

Spring Events

Our spring has been bursting with great events celebrating DSF's 10th Anniversary.

In April, DSF, First State Ballet Theatre, and OperaDelaware  kicked off The Year of the Bard with a beautiful performance of Romeo and Juliet 3D: Drama, Duet, Dance. It was wonderful to see theatre, ballet, and opera artists each interpret the famous "Balcony Scene." This presentation will have school performances in April 2013.

In May, DSF Board Member Charles Conway hosted a Shakespeare Salon at his house. Artistic Director David Stradley is available to speak with groups about his journey to loving Shakespeare and DSF's approach to getting others to love Shakespeare.

Also in May, DSF held a 10th Anniversary Celebration in conjunction with The Grand Opera House's presentation of MacHomer. During The Bard's Lobby Faire, DSF filled the lobby of the baby grand with Shakespearean fun and entertainment. Congrats to John Gardner (winner of the Shakespeare Costume Competition) and Brandi Bey and Trina Tjersland (co-winners of the "Lay on, Macduff! Contest).

Following the presentation of MacHomer, we were joined by MacHomer actor Rick Miller for a Dessert Reception.

We are very excited about the world the designers are creating for this summer's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The design team is creating a "play-ground for the imagination" that is not set in one particular time period but rather tries to capture a timeless, mythic feel.
