Greetings DVIA Families!

A Few Words From Our Principal

Hello Everyone!

First and foremost, thank you to each of you for making Student-Led Conferences a priority!  We could not hold this awesome event for 270 students if it wasn't for your commitment to your child's education and your flexibility in supporting the extra day to make this happen.  Thank you, thank you!  Your children did an amazing job of leading you through their routines and explaining their learning.

I'd also like to take a moment to welcome the 70 students who were accepted to DVIA for 2014-2015 in the lottery on March 13th.  The majority of those students were siblings of our current students.  We are excited to welcome you to the DVIA family!  I also want to acknowledge the unfortunate reality that as a small school and a charter school, over 400 waitlisted students are anxiously waiting for a spot.

Tyler's Two Cents

tyler two cents
Our next Pizza/Spirit Day is this Thursday/Friday, March 27th and 28th. As you know, our school-wide emphasis this past month for has been on the habit of collaboration.

We define collaboration as the ability to work effectively with others, providing support, and accepting that someone else may have an idea that better serves the project or group.

As always, we encourage your kids to dress up as a representation of what collaboration means to them. We understand that this might be a little difficult for kids to conceptualize, so an option is to come to school dressed in the clothing they would wear to any group activities they participate in. Examples range from Girl Scout to soccer uniforms.
We look forward to seeing what your kids come up with and, as always, we are grateful for your support in helping our kids develop these traits that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Thank you!!

DVIA Students Help Design Endeavour Home
DVIA 8th graders Isaiah and Guillermo are members of the Youth Advisory Committee, tasked with developing an exhibit concept for the space shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center. The committee is made up of students from the Da Vinci Schools and Dana Middle School (pictured right).

Science Center staff members were very impressed by our students' ideas. At the next meeting, students will be testing prototype exhibits based on feedback and design suggestions they provided. Isaiah and Guillermo are a testament to the innovation, problem-solving, communication and presentation skills all our students learn and practice every day at school.

For more information on the Endeavour exhibit, click here.

Chat With Matt Program Slides

The slides from Matt's program are here. Spoiler alert! The slides have some really cool renderings of the new high school campus.
