Greetings DVIA Families!

A Few Words From Our Principal

Hello everyone!

First of all, congratulations on submitting your second-to-last work journal!  We know that you not only work hard on homeschooling but then additionally support our school by ensuring your paperwork is submitted in time and at quality levels that will satisfy our auditors, ensure our funding and enable us to stay focused on all the right things. Thank you!

We excitedly welcomed new families at registration day yesterday.  There are many siblings and new families joining us next year!  Also, a few of you have inquired about whether we will be sending out something to returning families.  Yes!  That is one of the many things happening in May.  Be on the lookout for your continuing enrollment paperwork!

On that note, there is a lot going on in these last few weeks of school.  Is anyone else feeling the crunch?  Here are some things coming up:

  • Sharefest campus clean-up event (next Saturday!)
  • End-of-year social (details coming soon)
  • Auditor visit (we're gonna rock it!)
  • Smarter Balanced Assessment (new CST)
  • 8th grade photos (info below)
  • 8th grade graduation (can you believe it!?)
  • Hiring symposium
  • Enrichment Program performances
  • Presentations of Learning!!!
  • So much more...

So as you can see, the year may be winding down but we sure aren't!  And dont' forget, summer school and summer camp sign-ups are still happening!

Cheers!

M_Rainey sig

Tyler's Two Cents

tyler two cents

I wanted to make you all aware of a new opportunity that will be available at DVIA for this last portion of the semester.

Two senior students from Da Vinci Science (Tyler C. and Ceaser M.) approached me last week with the hopes of starting a free soccer program for DVIA students before school between May 5th and June 6th. The soccer academy will be available to DVIA students from 8:30am-9:00am on their normally scheduled at-school days.

The focus of the soccer academy is to teach students the fundamentals of the sport as well as character-building traits such as fairness and teamwork. If you are interested in having your son or daughter participate, please email me before Friday, May 2nd.

Please note that since these are high school students and not credentialed teachers, we ask that if your son or daughter participates that you stay at DVIA as the supervising parent from 8:30-9:00. This is not a drop-off program.

Thank you and have a great week!

What you need to know this week:

Standards For Mathematical Practices Workshop

The Standards for Mathematical Practices are the Habits of Mind that mathematically proficient students demonstrate. These habits and strategies are at the core of thinking like a mathematician. Join Janette as we watch a webinar presenting Cathy Carroll, of WestEd's STEM Program, who will provide an overview of the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs), including math tasks and classroom vignettes that highlight the practices "in action" as well as a look at the role of the SMPs in Smarter Balanced Performance Assessments.
