Greetings DVIA Families!

A Few Words From Our Principal

Hello everyone!

Happy Mother's Day!

This week I want to share some updates for next year that we are already working on:

Da Vinci Schools' Board of Trustees has approved facility additions at DVIA that we are very excited about! In mid-June, DVIA will be receiving two half-size bungalows (the size of the bathrooms near the back of campus). These spaces will be used for the Core 4-5 math class and additional support for students, details to be determined. Another exciting addition is that next year DVIA will occupy the classroom next to Darlene's room (behind the marble run and mega chess board), which is currently a high school classroom. We will convert the room into a Makerspace/Tinkering Lab/Art Space (official title to be determined)! We will be reaching out to you over the next few months for volunteer support and donations to make this space an amazing place for kids to explore, tinker, and learn. Stay tuned!

Related to facilities, I want to inform you that next year, DVIA's enrichment program will be located on the DVIA campus.  With the additional spaces mentioned above, we will have adequate classroom space to serve the program. We will need to make sure we are not exceeding our per-day enrollment capacity on Wednesdays so there may be limitations, but in general the enrichment program will mirror this year's program and we will continue to partner with Infinite Learning. More details will follow in the summer.

As many of you already know, a few of our teachers will be leaving our DVIA community next year. Korey will be trying his hand at high school math at Da Vinci Design and Melissa will be moving to Northern California to be closer to her family. Additionally, Jose, our counselor and reading specialist, will be pursuing his internship year as a school psychologist.  The good news is that he will be spending two days each week at DVIA!  However, for next year, we will be filling his position so that we can continue to give students excellent reading support.  Congratulations to all three of these amazing educators for their contributions to DVIA and for the next steps ahead of them!

We have already begun the process of finding awesome replacements for Korey, Melissa and Jose (although of course they can never be truly replaced!). I feel confident we will find teachers who will offer your children the love, support and dedication they deserve and that is our standard here at DVIA. To that end, we are selecting from over 100 resumes, interviewing top-notch candidates, and choosing a core group to participate in a hiring sympsium on May 22nd. At that event, candidates will be interviewed by a range of stakeholders, present a sample lesson, participate in a collaborative activity, reflect on their lesson and demonstrate their content knowledge. This is the process we have used to find qualified teachers for the past 5 years at Da Vinci Schools and I am confident that we will find the just-right fit.

Thank you as always for your support and dedication.

Cheers!

Tyler's Two Cents

With only one more month to go, we will be focusing on the Habit of Exploration. At DVIA, we define Exploration as the ability to take risks in our thinking about familiar and/or unfamiliar ideas by asking questions, researching, and seeking understanding in order to expand learning.

For this month's habits display, I am asking families to send me a "Tagxedo" containing words that represent what the habit of Exploration means to them. If you have not had the opportunity to use Tagxedo, it is a great, free online program that allows you to create interesting visual representations revolving around a central topic (in our case the habit of Exploration).

To create your Tagxedo, go to: www.tagxedo.com, click "create" and enter words that are synonymous for what the habit of Exploration means to your family.

Please email me your Tagxedos by May 16th, so I can assemble and place them on our Habits of Heart and Mind display.

Thank you for the daily dedication, support, and love you provide to your kids!

Please Help DVIA Student Sawyer Raise Money For Camp Scholarships
Bring Your Cans & Bottles
My name is Sawyer Stein and I have been collecting plastic bottles, cans, and glass bottles in our blue recycling bins on campus. I have been collecting these items for the last two months to raise money for Core 4-5 camp scholarships.

The money is for families that can't afford camp. I will be donating 100% of all recycling profits to scholarships for camp. If you would like to help me raise funds, please donate your plastic bottles, aluminium cans and glass bottles to our blue bins at school. This will be a year-long project to fund as many scholarships as possible. I will also be trying to find matching funds from our local trash companies. Thank you.
