A Few Words From Our Principal

Hello everyone!

It was great to see so many families at the End-of-Year Social!  The added Cultural Exploration and Poetry Jam made it an even more engaging and unique event.  I'd like to especially recognize the efforts of student Flora and her mom Karen for organizing the cultural celebration.  Additionally, Kaitlin (Core 4-5 humanities teacher) made sure our annual Poetry Jam was represented.  The student poets were amazing and our MC, Kobe, was awesome!  Middle school parents Kaye and Kristen organized a middle school movie night opportunity and the Core 4-5 teachers, Korey, Kaitlin and Rita, chaperoned throughout the evening.  Thank you to all families and staff members for making this final event extra special!

Tyler's Two Cents

As our classroom and school focus transitions to POLs in the upcoming weeks, I'd like to encourage you to stop and take a moment to reflect on the growth that your children (and even you as parent educators!) have experienced throughout the year. All too often it is easy for us to "rush and rush" to get "POLs finished" or "complete this last project" or "_(fill in the blank)_."  As you are supporting your child(ren) with successfully completing POLs or final projects, be sure to celebrate the growth that has taken place throughout the year.

So the next time you are feeling overwhelmed with everything that needs to "get done" before the end of the year, I'd like to encourage you take a break with your son or daughter and reflect on the year. Go play catch, have some lemonade, walk your dog, etc and casually chat about the year. I bet you'll wind up coming back feeling refreshed and ready for the end of the year.

Please Help DVIA Student Sawyer Raise Money For Camp Scholarships

Bring Your Cans & Bottles

My name is Sawyer Stein and I have been collecting plastic bottles, cans, and glass bottles in our blue recycling bins on campus. I have been collecting these items for the last two months to raise money for next year's Core 4-5 camp scholarships. 

  

The money is for families who can't afford camp. I will be donating 100% of all recycling profits to scholarships for camp. If you would like to help me raise funds, please donate your plastic bottles, aluminium cans and glass bottles to our blue bins at school. This will be a year-long project to fund as many scholarships as possible. I will also be trying to find matching funds from our local trash companies. Thank you.

CPK FUNdraising Event

Bring this flyer to CPK and 20% of your check will be donated to benefit Infinite Learning and its DVIA enrichment programs.  Proceeds will be used to provide the materials required by the various courses (art supplies, paper, cooking supplies, etc.).  Dine-in, take-out or catering - all are included. Maybe your office would like to support?

LACMA Memorial Day Trip

Mon, 5/26 | 10 am - 4 pm

LACMA has sponsored two buses to bring 100 people to the museum. Prepare to spend the day with friends, family and lots of art. 

  

Please bring your own lunch, water and sunscreen. There is plenty of green space for kids and adults to run and play. We will be leaving DVIA at 10:00 am and coming home after 4:00. All children, adults and extended families are FREE and welcome!!!!

Stress & Anxiety In Children & Adolescents - Presentation

Weds, 5/28 | 6 - 7:30 pm

Anxiety is the most common mental health problem in children and adolescents, affecting up to 25% of youths. Drs. Michelle Rozenman, Ph.D. and Araceli Gonzalez, Ph.D. from the UCLA Child OCD, Anxiety, and Tic Disorders Program will present information on how to assess and identify excessive feelings of fear, nervousness, and worry, and discuss evidence-based therapies for pediatric anxiety disorders. Specific tips and strategies for helping kids and teens manage stress will also be discussed.

Young Scholars Program At UCLA - Young Mathematicians

July 7th - July 25th

 

This program is for students entering grades K-6 who want to engage in hands-on, problem solving mathematics. Students will work independently and collaboratively, combining conceptual understanding with basic skills to solve problems and to think critically. This constructivist, activities-based approach to mathematics is enriching, motivating, fun, and challenging. Many other courses focusing on reading, writing, science, and social studies are also offered.
