Greetings DVIA Families!

A Few Words From Our Principal

Hello Families!

On behalf of the entire DVIA staff, I would like to extend an enormous THANK YOU to all of you for the amazing treat you gave us last Wednesday!  I guess it's a sign that parents believe in project-based learning when their staff appreciation brunch includes a secret mission (Operation Moustache will go down in DVIA history!), a caravan of parents waiting to transport the staff (complete with moustaches of course!), student secret agents/co-conspirators (thank you Cami, Helena and Zoe!), a coded puzzle to solve, masseuse, and thematic gifts!  You really spoiled us and we know it took the efforts of many of you to make the day happen!  A huge thank you to parent Becky for scheming, collecting contributions out of the back of her van in a parking lot day after day and hosting us at her home!

I can't believe we're entering the very last week of the school year.  I hope it has been a great year for your family...it has been for mine!  I appreciate all of your support this year and look forward next year.  After a break this summer of course!

As a reminder, the following dates for next year were sent out in March.  They are also on the Parent Educator Resource Site!  Please make sure to put these days in your calendar for next year:

  • 8/18 First Day of School (on-campus for M/Th and homeschool day for T/F)
  • 8/18 and 8/19 Parent Educator Conference #1 (formerly called "Jumpstart").  Parents, please plan to attend on your child's DVIA day...you are welcome to attend both days as well!
  • 9/1 Labor Day Holiday
  • 9/24 Parent Educator Conference #2
  • 10/7 & 8 Student Led Conferences (no students on 10/7)
  • 11/10-11 Veteran's Day Holiday and PD Day (no school for students)
  • 11/12 Parent Educator Conference #3
  • 11/24-28 Thanksgiving Holiday
  • 12/22-1/9 Winter Break
  • 1/19 MLK Holiday
  • 2/13 & 16 President's Day Holiday
  • 3/10 & 11 Student Led Conferences (no students on 3/10)
  • 4/6-10 Spring Break
  • 5/25 Memorial Day Holiday
  • 6/5 Last Day of School

Enjoy this last week!

Tyler's Two Cents

tyler two cents

Hello Families,

Can you believe that the year is over??? We have had such a strong 2013-14 school year and I'd like to personally thank each and every one of you as this year would not be possible without your support.  In each of the Information Meetings we held for prospective families, I echoed the fact that our school model doesn't work without our partnership with parents.  Your commitment to your children and our school makes DVIA what it is and I am personally so thankful for all your efforts.  I wish you all the best this summer and look forward to seeing you in August.

Thank you!

A Giant FAN Thank You!!

Thank you to Becky Dawson-Marble and her team for a fabulous (and stealthy) staff appreciation event. Becky and her daughter Cami chaired the event and hosted it in their home.

"Operation Moustache" was top secret, whisking the staff away to an unknown location for an unknown event by the three secret agents in the photo. The mission was a complete success!

Thank You & Have A Wonderful Summer!!

FAN says thank you to all of our DVIA families for all the ways you found to pitch in this school year and make DVIA a special experience for our students. Have a fun and relaxing summer and we'll see you next year!

eScrip: Money For DVIA When You Shop!!!

Did you know that you can help DVIA earn money, without spending any of your own? eScrip is a way to earn money on the things you already buy at the places you already shop! There are no member cards, numbers to remember or fees... A percentage of all eligible purchases go to the school! Sign up here. Search for and choose "Da Vinci Innovation Academy." Contact Annette Owens with questions.

Curriculum Materials Wanted

Do you have gently used curriculum materials that another family might appreciate next year? We will be reorganizing PERC over the summer and would love to incorporate your materials. We plan to include a lending library as well as a resource swapping zone. Please drop off your items to Janette.
