Stepping Up to 4-H

This year, many Clover Kids will be entering into the 4th grade, which means they will step up into the Dallas County 4-H program. To make this an easy transition, parents and their youth are invited to an informational meeting on Thursday, August 7 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Dallas County office. Lisa Mickelson and Aleta Cochran will explain to attendees the differences between Clover Kids and 4-H, including club information, events and opportunities. Those who are interested in attending should RSVP by Tuesday, August 5 at (515) 993-4281.

Mondays, September 8-October 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., ISU Extension Families Program Assistant, Rosa Gonzalez, will be facilitating the Strengthening Families Program at the Perry Middle School. This evidence-based parent, youth and family skills-building curriculum prevents adolescent substance abuse, strengthens parent/youth communication and increases academic success in youth.  A meal will be provided before the class at 6 p.m. To register today contact Rosa at (515) 490-2298.

"Making Do"

ISU Extension Food and Nutrition

Program Specialist, Mary Krisco, will be presenting, "Making Do": Remembering Victory Gardens and the Rations Recipes of World War II on Sunday, August 10 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Forest Park Museum in Perry. Go back in time to the 1940s when our mothers and fathers or grandmas and grandpas coped with food shortages due to the war. You'll be amazed at the ingenious ways homemakers made meals without meat and will also be able to take home vintage recipes.

Join 4-H Today!
Dallas County 4-H is a part of a huge central Iowa marketing campaign to gain recruitment in both 4-H members and volunteers. Our YouTube ad will be shown at the Jordan Creek movie theater and specially designed, laminated table clings will be placed in the food court. Additionally, through targeted demographics, we will reach audiences on YouTube. We're very excited about these efforts and hope you are, too! The 4-H program is a way for local 4th-12th graders to become leaders in their communities, learn new skills, gain new friends and, of course, have fun!
