Greetings!
2017 proved to be a difficult year to be a child. According to
UNICEF
, this was one of the worst years for children, particularly those caught in conflicts and besieged areas. Warring parties have a blatant disregard for the safety and protection of children, despite international humanitarian law on armed conflict.
Organizations that work with childreGreetings!n are no exception to this rule. Child Foundation's office in Mazar-e Sharif has currently moved to a different location due to a political stand-off that has resulted in armed conflict in recent days. Just last week we witness the brutal attacks on Save the Children's office in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad. As a result, Save the Children has now closed all off their operations in the country. These conflicts only further victimize the children that would have otherwise benefited from the presence of organizations like Child Foundation and Save the Children.
As we monitor the situation, I would like to thank our brave colleagues in Mazar-e Sharif as they continue to work against all odds and the dangers posed to them. They are the courageous individuals who ensure our programs continue and our children receive the aid they need to succeed in their education.
