Dateline DA August 2015
Welcome Back!

Thank you for your steadfast support of Denver Academy. Our school would not be where it is today without our wonderful community of students, parents, alumni, employees, and friends like you.

August is a month of fresh starts and Denver Academy has an exciting fresh start of its own to share with you. In the past 18 months, Denver Academy has made a lot of changes, from reaccreditation with ACIS (mandatory for all ACIS schools) to a modified mission statement to the creation of a strategic vision to lead the school to the year 2022.

The next step? We're changing our look on the outside to reflect the progress we've made on the inside. You'll see that our new logo and tagline (check it out in the header above!) honor DA's pioneering educational model and decades of expertise, within a sophisticated and refreshed style.

We have spent a good deal of time and effort developing this logo. It has been a deliberative and collaborative process that drew upon in-house expertise, as well as numerous outside opinions.

In the coming weeks, you'll be seeing more and more of our new logo and tagline. Some changes will be relatively quick, like letterhead, and others, like physical signage, will take more time. And in the months following, you can also look forward to a new website and suite of Admissions materials.

This has been a long but exciting process. We're very happy with the result and hope you are too.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Barry

Director of Marketing

New Faces on Campus

There is a common misconception about the teaching profession: "Teachers have summers off." While of course vacation time is critical for everyone's wellness, this summer--like every summer--teachers at DA have been actively involved in continued professional development, curriculum planning, committee work, leading student trips to Washington DC and Singapore, training with the Smithsonian Institute, and teaching in our summer school program.

Our newest faculty members participated in the DA Summer Training Institute. All teachers new to Denver Academy, regardless of previous experience, participate in an intense four-week training program. Often compared to a "boot camp," this trains them in Denver Academy's programs, philosophies and methods. The time, energy and resources dedicated to training our faculty is a critical ingredient to the success we have with teaching and learning. What I've also learned this summer is that we are being joined by truly passionate, thoughtful, and creative teachers.

It is my privilege and pleasure to welcome the following teachers to our community. Please take a moment to read about them on our website and learn about the impressive and diverse backgrounds that they bring to our school.

--Philippe Ernewein, Director of Education

Development News
Grant News

DA was fortunate to receive several foundation grants this past spring.

DA received grants from both the Hill Foundation ($20K) and The Anschutz Foundation ($25K) for the Tuition Assistance Program. We are grateful for their ongoing support for this crucial program that benefits over 100 students every year.

Our friends at the Galena Foundation continued support of the 2015 Wings of the Future award with a grant of $5K for the 18th year. This award was created to recognize and honor a DA faculty member who has achieved a high level of accomplishment in classroom teaching or curriculum development and manifests an extraordinary dedication to the students of Denver Academy. Jolene Gutierrez, DA librarian for 18 years, was this year's deserving recipient. Congratulations Jolene!
Alumni Walk

Honoring the past and paving the way for the future.

Nearly 150 bricks have been installed in the Alumni Walk since its inception in 2006. During this 10th Anniversary of our Alumni Walk, we hope parents will continue the legacy and honor their senior and their time at DA. An inscribed brick creates a special and lasting legacy and helps to pave the way for future students.

Alumni Bricks can be purchased for $125 and the proceeds support the Denver Academy Scholarship Endowment Fund. Your gift will help provide opportunities for future students who will need financial assistance to attend Denver Academy.

Many   bricks  record a graduate's name and year of graduation. Others hint at secrets. Each holds a story. The Alumni Walk begins at the historic gated entrance to our campus at the corner of Iliff Ave. and Birch St.

Purchase your brick on our website or call Rebecca Stevens at ext. 205.

Legacy Society

Over our lifetime, there are many people and places that have a significant impact on our families. Members of the Denver Academy Legacy Society have expressed the importance that DA has made in their lives by making a commitment to the school through their will, a trust, a gift annuity, life insurance policy, or other deferred gift.

Although we hope these gifts will not come to fruition for many years, the Legacy Society is a wonderful way to provide a solid foundation for the School's fiscal health while at the same time, ensuring that future generations of students will benefit from a Denver Academy education.

In September, the members of the DA Legacy Society will join together for the annual Legacy Society dinner. It is a special event for special DA friends.

Please be in touch with Karen Lozow, Director of Development, to discuss leaving a deferred gift to Denver Academy.
