We'll be pre-selling the Diary of a Wimpy Kid #9 book for delivery before our fair starts and at the fair, we'll have a selection of students' published art and writing for viewing and purchase.
Our online fair will be held from November 2-22 with all items ordered shipping after the conclusion of the fair on the 22nd. Make sure to visit the online fair. This is a great opportunity to purchase gifts for teachers, family, and friends while supporting the DA Library and Literacy Specialists.
In order to prepare for our book fair and other upcoming literacy events as well as support our library, the following donations would help us stretch our budget:
*Tea cups, mugs, or anything Alice in Wonderland/Mad Hatter related
*Medieval- (castle, dragons, knights, princesses, etc.) themed items
*Audiobooks on CD
*Snacks and drinks for teacher book fair preview on Nov. 6
If you're interested in volunteering or donating items, please contact Jolene Gutierrez or Tammy Curran.
MS & HS Cross Country Teams Off to the Races!
|
Standley Lake Invitational |
High school and middle school cross country teams have been off to an excellent start in 2014. Middle school harriers have participated in several meets including the Dawson, Slavens and Runners Roost Invitational. Beyond the thrill of competing against other middle school runners, Coaches Monica Johnson and Chris Hegele are instructing young runners in proper techniques of warm-up, dynamic stretching and cool down to make running enjoyable and part of a life-long commitment to physical fitness.
Junior Varsity and Varsity runners have been hard at work since early August. Led by senior captain Andy O'Dell (tenth in the state in 2A competition last year), DA's team has had more runners turn out this fall than ever before.
A typical day might see them on a trail run in Deer Creek Canyon in Jefferson County, the Bluffs in Lone Tree or along the Highline Canal in Denver. Saturday mornings are spent in speed workouts at Washington Park. They, too, have competed in invitationals including Dawson, Lyons, Elizabeth, Standley Lake and Runners Roost. They have also been competing in several DPS invitationals against 4A and 5A runners. Regionals are just ahead in mid-October to determine how many runners will advance to the State competition in Colorado Springs the last Saturday in October.

Experiential Education
A long-standing Denver Academy tradition is experiential week, which is
March 18-20, 2015 this school year. During these magical days, students are able to participate in educational opportunities that are outside our normal classroom walls, and with students and teachers from other divisions, ranging from middle school to high school (they learn through experience!). Teachers are busy planning and creating wonderful programs, which will span a variety of costs and locations, including international, national, regional and local locales. The packets and forms will be available to seniors beginning approximately
October 10 and to 7th-11th grades approximately
October 17. These programs are required. If you have any questions, please ask
Vanessa Fritzsche or
Virginia Hermann.
