David Miller, CEO of Dare To Be King, traveled from Baltimore and Washington, D.C. to Chicago on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 to read from, discuss, autograph and give away copies of his bestselling book for Black boys, Khalil's Way.  

Additionally, he spoke with the boys about things in their lives that few people can effectively do, including father absence, bullying, high academic achievement, and having goals and visions in life.  

This session could have been entitled, "Reading Books and Building Bonds!"  More than 100 resilient young Black male students from two schools in Chicago: Barbara Sizemore Academy (Southside) and Joseph Kellman Corporate Community School (Westside) participated. 

Mr. Miller gives a special thanks to Phillip Jackson and Black Star Project and Pat Ford and the Steans Family Foundation for handling the logistics.

We Teach Young Black Boys  to Read Well

The latest NAEP scores (National Assessment of Educational Progress) show that only 7% of Black 8th-Grade boys in Chicago read at a proficient level.  This is down 3%, from 10%, in 2013.

We teach Black Boys to read well.  If you have a 1st- through 4th-grade Black boy that you want to learn to read well, call 773.285.9600 so that we can register your Black boy into our Saturday University. 

This program is free, but requires parents to make a commitment to their child learning to read well.
