Read: Matthew 2:1-12; Micah 5:2
Reference: "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me. The One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting." Micah 5:2 NKJV
Most of the time we view the text about the wise men going to Bethlehem as part of the Christmas story, but if we look closely, it is a lesson of "knowing about God". Look past Herod, the gifts, the guiding star, Mary and Joseph. Look at the Magi and the scribes.
The Magi seemingly knew of the Hebrew text of Micah 5:2, thus their coming to Jerusalem. The scribes, known as the professional scholars, of whom the Magi inquired directions to find the Christ child, also knew of the scripture.
Two groups of people, knowing similar information, but using it in very different ways. The scribes gave the Magi directions but did not have the faith to go to find the Messiah. The Magi, having not as much information but having faith, went to find the Messiah. When the Magi found the Christ Child, they worshipped the Lord and entered into His presence.
Reflection: Many today know a great deal about the scriptures, but sad to say only a few have the faith to step out and enter into the presence of God and His work. Which are you?
Prayer: We pray that we will have a music hall. (Yasmine, 10th Grader) (Lyndia, 4th Grader)
