This is Day 8 of the Bike Austin Membership Drive.

Remember: To meet our goal, we need you to ask five of your friends, family, and co-workers to join. We need you to tell your story of why you are a Bike Austin member.

Tell them what comes from the heart. Maybe it's that you want to be part of an organization that is helping to make Austin a world-class bicycling city. Maybe you think of new bike facilities that have been installed such as bike lanes or family friendly bikeways, or you think of the progress we've made in other areas, such as progress in justice issues or on-street bike parking.

Talk with them face-to-face and ask them to join Bike Austin at lobv.org/join or via 512-773-8775.

Here are some specific examples of our recent work:

• Established $5MM of bike/ped facilities on north MoPac, including a shared-use path connecting north Shoal Creek Blvd. across U.S. 183 to points north, and a shared-use path connecting future bike lanes on Loop 360 to Walnut Creek Trail. There will also be a formal feasibility study for a shared-use path along the whole corridor (Cesar Chavez to Parmer Lane), and where feasible, initial design will be completed.
• Established $3.3MM for bike safety improvements on unincorporated Travis County roads in November 2011 bond election.
• Helped establish neighborhood and bicycling community support for the Rio Grande St. bikeway in West Campus.
• Helped implement South Congress uphill bike lane (Riverside to Oltorf): Our email campaign provided positive momentum for the installation of this bike lane in the face of concerns about reverse-angle parking (that allowed the bike lane to fit).
• Produced the Austin City Council and Mayoral Candidates Forum this spring.
• ... and many other accomplishments.
