MBA Throwback: Elected Best Dressed
The Young Lawyers' Division hosted their annual Motion to Strike last Thursday. YLD president Jonathan May and board members Shayla Purifoy and  Julia Kavanagh donned seersucker.

Our Condolences

Norman Paul Hagemeyer


Norman Paul Hagemeyer, 72, was born in St. Louis, MO and passed away on July 30, 2016 in St. Louis after a determined battle with Leukemia. 

He was a proud graduate of Frayser High "Class of 62", Memphis State University, "Class of 66" with an engineering degree and Cecil Humphreys School of Law in 1972. 

After college, he worked at International Harvester before going to law school. During his private practice he was an assistant attorney for the City of Memphis for 25 years and a trustee for the US Bankruptcy Court for more than 40 years. 

Funeral services will be at 10 am Thursday morning, August 4 at the funeral home with interment to follow in Love Community Cemetery in Hernando, MS. Norman's family would like to thank the West Clinic and the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis for their special care and compassion. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the   charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting  www.memphisfuneralhome.net.

For over 10 years, attorneys have gathered on the second Saturday of every month to provide free legal help to those in need. Many of you know it by the Saturday Legal Clinic.

Jones Chapter, Hardison Law, Glanker Brown,  FedEx, Morgan & Morgan,  Wyatt Tarrant & Combs, Butler Snow, Nahon Sahavorich & Trotz, MBA Health Law Section,  MBA YLD and Litigation Section,  MBA Board and Past Presidents, and  MALS Board and Staff. Many individual attorneys have also volunteered their time and efforts as well.  

In an effort to widen the program's reach, a rebranding campaign has been launched and it will be known as 2SLAC - 2nd Saturday Legal Aid Clinic.

Purifoy Named County Judicial Commissioner

The Shelby County Commission appointed attorney Shayla Purifoy, MBA member and YLD board member, as the newest Shelby County judicial commissioner at the body's Monday, Aug. 1, meeting.

Judicial commissioners work with the General Sessions Court to conduct probable-cause hearings and determine if those arrested can be released from custody and, if so, under what conditions. Click here to read the full story.
