May 12, 2017

Hi all,
Don't worry, it's not the train. It really is the light at the end of the tunnel!

I'm not suggesting for one minute that you can hardly wait for the school year to be over. I'm giving you encouragement - you WILL successfully help bring this school year to a happy conclusion. And it will be a wonderful achievement for you, your colleagues, and your students!

Peace
--Kathy Rohde

NEA's Early Enrollment Campaign

Now is a good time to have membership conversations with folks who haven't yet made the commitment to join our union. Early enrollment is available to any employee who has never been a member of WEAC/NEA. For those who fill out an early enrollment form, these are the benefits:
  • Membership for the 2017-18 school year (September 1, 2017, through August 31, 2018) begins as soon as we receive a signed form.
  • Payment of dues does not begin until September 10, 2017.
  • NEA liability insurance begins immediately.
  • Access to QEI Gold Membership, WEAC Saver's Club, and NEA Click and Save.
Please contact the WEAC Region 3 at 800-472-5582 for more details about how to sign up your members using the Early Enrollment plan.

The August 7th Listening Project has a very important focus: a Fall Membership Drive for YOUR local. When a team from YOUR local attends this workshop, they will come away with a PLAN to increase membership. You can't afford to miss this one! Learn more and sign up today!

Brown County Candidate Recruitment

All are invited to the first Brown County candidate recruitment meeting for the 2018 spring elections. At this meeting there will be a lay of the land done for which seats are up and talking about who also needs to be in the room in order to recruit the best candidates who will work toward shared progressive values.

The Brown County Democrats are supportive of this effort and are allowing Wisconsin Progress to use their space again this year.

Please join them at 118 S. Chestnut, Green Bay on May 17th from 6 to 7:30pm.

You may contact Candidate Services Manager Becky Rasmussen with questions.

State Budget Debate: Restore Funding for Public Schools!

We know how desperately our schools need more funding. By a wide margin, the people of Wisconsin agree with us. A recent Marquette University Law School poll showed that 80 percent of Wisconsinites believe we should invest more money into public education. In addition, voters across the state are opting to increase funding for their schools through referenda.

Now is a key time to take action, as the debate intensifies over the 2017-19 state budget.

Proud Union Home Signs

It is with great excitement that the West De Pere Education Association invites other locals to join in their yard sign initiative to create a positive union presence in their neighborhoods.

With the help of Region 3, the WDPEA applied for a PR grant that created 100 Proud Union Home signs free of charge for the West De Pere EA, Shawano EA, and any other members interested in displaying a sign.

Region 3 has graciously offered to store a number of signs for people to pick-up at their office at 1136 N. Military Ave., Green Bay, WI 54303. Signs are available NOW for pick-up. Thank you to Region 3 and Weber Printing for the help and support with this initiative. Call the office at 800-472-5582 to reserve a sign.
