Dear Friends,

I want to sincerely thank you for your generous support of Rainbow Services. Whether you contributed money, volunteered, collected hygiene products, gave to a food drive, or told a friend in need about our services, you made it possible for our organization to empower individuals and families suffering from domestic violence.

As I enter my second year as Executive Director of Rainbow Services, I am excited about the role we can play in building a healthier community. Here in the South Bay, where homelessness has risen nearly 40% since 2013, there is much work to be done to help those most vulnerable to violence and poverty. Throughout our region, we see opportunities to make a difference in the lives of so many.

While the issue of homelessness is largely visible, many of those who become homeless do so to get away from violence that takes place behind closed doors:

* More than 1 in 5 homeless residents in Greater Los Angeles are without housing as a direct consequence of domestic violence

People who have been victimized by family violence at any point in their lifetime are more likely to end up homeless:

* Approximately 80% of homeless women and children across the country have experienced domestic violence

And once homeless, victims are at greater risk of continued violence:

* In Downtown Los Angeles, homeless women are nearly twice as likely to experience intimate partner violence than women in housing

These statistics are alarming, but we know that we have the power to change them. With your help, we have provided safe housing, case management, legal services, childcare, and other vital support to victims and their families for more than 33 years. Every survivor who comes in contact with Rainbow reduces their risk of ongoing abuse, homicide, suicide, and/or homelessness.

We believe that healthy communities begin with healthy connections. This is why we are humbly reaching out to you. Together, we can build a healthier community by connecting with some of the most vulnerable among us. Together, we can change the statistics and transform the lives of so many in our community.
