This Saturday: Filing Begins for Public Office in the 2016 Primary

Filing for candidates for Precinct Chair for the 2016 Democratic Primary began on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Candidates for public office can't file until Saturday, November 14, 2014. Filing ends for candidates for both Precinct Chair and for public office on Monday, December 14, 2015, and is set by law to end at 6 PM.

Note to Precinct Chairs and candidates for Precinct Chair:
the current term will end twenty days after the 2016 Primary Runoff. If you want to be elected to the next two-year term, you will need to file for the Primary ballot. You can find a link to the form and more information about Precinct Chairs at this page:

Find more information about running for public office and links to forms for filing for the primary, filing of campaign treasurers, filing fees, and to the petition forms that candidates for JP and Judge have to get voters to sign to get on the primary ballot (or that other candidates can use to avoid paying filing fees), at  http://www.dallasdemocrats.org/elections/election-facts.html

This Coming Monday November 16: DCDP Executive Committee Meeting

The Dallas County Democratic Party Executive Committee will meet this coming Monday, November 16, at the usual place, the Communications Workers union hall at 1408 N. Washington at Bryan, Dallas, at 6:30 PM. This is their regular quarterly meeting, at which they will hear reports on party activity and finances, and consider electing Precinct Chairs to fill vacancies. Please note that applications to fill a vacancy for the rest of the current term for Precinct Chairs (which runs until after next year's Runoff) need to be submitted to the DCDP office this week so that residence, registration etc. can be verified.

The Executive Committee consists of the DCDP County Chair, Carol Donovan, the EC Secretary, Gary Garcia, and the Precinct Chairs of Dallas County. The EC meetings are open to attendance by all Dallas County Democrats, but space (including parking) is limited.

Also at this meeting, Frances Rizo, Chair of the Dallas County Tejano Democrats, has announced that she plans to propose a Resolution calling on the Dallas City Council to reverse its recent vote to allow a cement plant to relocated to just uphill from a middle school and near several other schools. Because this has arisen since the last EC meeting, no previous notice could be given there, so it will require a suspension of the rules to consider at this meeting instead of deferring it until the next meeting.

In Memory: Pat Tharp

Patrick H. Tharp died peacefully Oct. 29 at the age of 78. He was a long-time active Democrat, Precinct Chair and Election Judge, who often hosted Democratic events and meetings at his dance studio in northeast Dallas. His obit added "Beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, he was a dance instructor extraordinaire, Unitarian, yellow dog Democrat and friend of Bill W." He will indeed be missed.
