Our ornament contest deadline has been extended to 12/9 - you still have time!

December 2016 Mercer Library News
As I write this we are getting some much-needed snow and colder temperatures. Everyone should do their 'winter weather dance' to get those ski and snowmobile trails frozen!

There's a lot going on at the library this month, as always. A couple of things you won't want to miss: Tomorrow we'll have our latest Community Chat with Zona Wick from the Iron County health department, and next Tuesday we'll be screening the new documentary from Jeff Richter, "Shadowing the White Deer." We also have holiday workshops and movies for everyone coming soon. Read on for more details.

We'll be closed for the Christmas holiday from 12/21 through 12/26, which is a few days longer than normal. (We're getting some hardwood floors refinished.) Please plan ahead so you can stock up on plenty of books, movies, games, and puzzles for your holiday break.

See you at the library!

Library director
Shadowing the White Deer

Join us for a screening of "Shadowing the White Deer," produced by Nature's Press and Root River Films, on Tuesday, December 6th at 2:00pm. Mercer photographer and filmmaker Jeff Richter has searched out these beautiful anomalies and spent countless hours filming them. Richter will be on hand to answer questions, and copies of his books and DVD will be available for sale.

Community Chats @ Your Library

Join us for our next "Community Chat," where we invite a representative from one of our local service agencies to talk about what they do for the community, this Friday, December 2nd at 9:30 a.m. with  Zona Wick from the Iron County Health Department. We'll provide the coffee and the treats!

Decorate our Holiday Tree - deadline extended

The Friends of the Library invite you to decorate our holiday tree this season. Bring in a handmade or hand-decorated ornament and you could win a cash prize of up to $100!

The ornaments will not be judged and everyone has an equal chance of winning, so you don't need to be a great artist to enter. There are separate categories for adults and kids, giving everyone plenty of chance to win. Ornaments will be due at the library by December 9, 2016. Visit our website for more information and the complete rules for this contest.

Gift-making workshops for kids

Kids of all ages are welcome to visit the library after school on December 9th and 16th for two gift-making workshops. We'll work on simple crafts that will make nice gifts for the holidays. Click here for more details.

Movie Night @ Your Library

Our next movie night will be on Wednesday, December 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Center, with a free screening of "Florence Foster Jenkins" - rated PG-13, starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. All are welcome, and we'll provide the popcorn!

Holiday Schedule

The library will be CLOSED from December 21 through December 26 for the Christmas holiday and floor refinishing. Our building will not be accessible during that time. We will also be closed on January 2, 2017, in observance of the New Year's Day holiday.

Access our library catalog and digital magazines any time through our website at http://mercer.wislib.org, or check out our digital books collection at dbooks.wplc.info. All you need is your library card number!
