2017 Artist Research and Development Grant Recipients Announced   
17 Grantees Awarded, Plus Bill Desmond Writing Award  
The Arizona Commission on the Arts is pleased to announce the recipients of Artist Research and Development Grants for Fiscal Year 2017. This highly-competitive grant program awards funding to Arizona artists practicing in a variety of artistic disciplines in support of research and development leading to the creation of new works of art. This year, thanks to the state's increased investment in the arts for the current fiscal year, 17 applicants received an award of up to $5,000 in funding--six more than were awarded funding last year.

Fiscal Year 2018 Community Investment and Festival Grant Program Information Sessions   
January 17-26, 2017  
In preparation for Fiscal Year 2018 grant deadlines for the Community Investment and Festival Grant programs, the Arts Commission is offering information sessions online and around the state during the month of January, 2017. These sessions will be suitable for both new and returning applicants and will cover the application process, highlight changes to the guidelines and requirements for the upcoming grant cycle and allow time for questions from participants.

National Endowment for the Arts Awards $185,000 in Grants to 12 Arizona Arts Programs   
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) announced the recipients of the first round of grantmaking for fiscal year 2017. 12 Arizona arts programs are among the recipients. Collectively they were awarded $185,000. Categories Awarded include Art Works, Art Works: Creativity Connects, Challenge America, and Creative Writing Fellowships in Poetry.

NEA Publishes "Guide to Community-Engaged Research in the Arts and Health"
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) published a Guide to Community-Engaged Research in the Arts and Health, a blueprint for collaboration among academic researchers, arts organizations and artists aiming to study the arts' effects on health and extend this research to arts programs or therapies.

NEA Publishes "How to Do Creative Placemaking"
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has published How to Do Creative Placemaking: An Action-Oriented Guide to Arts in Community Development. The book features 28 essays from thought leaders active in arts-based community development as well as 13 case studies of projects funded through the NEA's creative placemaking program, Our Town.

 stART Grant--Community Cultural Development Mini-Grants
Deadline to apply: January 20, 2017 
The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona's stART Grant provides support to encourage neighborhood and/or project-based art endeavors focused on problem solving. Now in its pilot year, stART explores what impact these small infusions of funds can have on a community.

Arizona Poetry Out Loud Registration Deadline Extended
Registration Deadline: January 30, 2017 
The school registration deadline for 2017 Arizona Poetry Out Loud has been extended! High school teachers are invited to introduce the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word and theater into their English class. Students can master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about their literary heritage all while competing for scholarship prizes!


Arts Learning Collaboration Grant
Application Deadline: February 2, 2017  
Arts Learning Collaboration Grants enhance the work of arts educators, classroom teachers and school-based arts programs through collaborative projects taking place in-school (during regular school hours), after-school, or during summer/inter-session and in-services.

Lifelong Arts Engagement Grant
Application Deadline: February 2, 2017  
Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants enhance the work of community and social service organizations/ governmental entities through partnership projects with professional teaching artists and/or arts organizations.

Professional Development Grant
Application Deadline: February 2, 2017 
Professional Development Grants provide funding support for participation in artistic development and skills building activities or opportunities that contribute to professional growth and career development.

Grant funds available for organizations and individuals. Categories include Art Works, Challenge America, Creativity Connects, Our Town, Research. Creative Writing Fellowships and Translation Project Grants available to individuals.
