Patron Drive
As 2016 winds to a close, we again ask you to donate generously to our just-launched annual Patron Drive. It is donors like you who make our programs - concerts and music education - possible for thousands in the Racine community. We invite you to peruse the literature below and contact us with any questions. Please, donate today by visiting our website, calling the RSO office at 262-636-9285 or mailing your donation to:
Racine Symphony Orchestra
P.O. Box 1874
Racine, WI 53401
Alternative giving options are available, including a directed donation to the Middle School Mentorship Program and instrumental chairs, as well as monthly giving plans. One of our six income streams, the Patron Drive helps to make our concerts and music education programs possible - most of these are offered free of charge. Thank you for supporting the Racine Symphony Orchestra.

RSO tuba player David Spies
|
Musician Bio -
David Spies
What is your favorite piece to play?
I love playing music of all types and periods, but I really enjoy late 19th and 20th century repertoire. I particularly like performing
Petroushka,
Firebird, and
The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, and music of Dmitri Shostakovich and Paul Hindemith. However, Brahms'
Second Symphony is a wonderful work as well. Orchestral arrangements of music by J.S. Bach as well as Bach
Cello Suites are always rewarding.
What motivates you to keep playing?
The tuba was patented in 1835, so it is a relatively recent instrument. Even though over 2000 new works for tuba were composed in the last 40 years, historically there is no music originally composed by mainstream orchestral composers that included tuba until Brahms, Dvořák, and Tchaikovsky.
