Hundreds of children and families from Wu Yee Children's Services and SFUSD elementary schools helped us create this banner at the City's Annual Toy & Book Festival! It will be on display in the lobby of the DCYF office through January 5.

Bayview Opera House 6th Annual Winter Wonderland
The Bayview Opera House Winter Wonderland was the place to be on December 14. Neighbors, community organizations, and City departments got together to play in the snow (yes, really!), admire the beautiful decorations at the Opera House, make holiday ornaments, decorate cookies, ice skate, eat delicious food, and shop local vendors. DCYF Comms Squad member Emily attended the event, and found a kindred spirit in the fella pictured above at the make-your-own s'mores station: the best toasted marshmallow is a completely burnt marshmallow!

Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony
The Rainbow World Fund Tree of Hope was lit in a ceremony at City Hall that featured the SF Boys Choir, Broadway performers, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and fabulous hosts Donna Sachet and Cheryl Jennings. The tree is decorated with over 15,000 origami paper cranes that have wishes for the future of the world written on their wings. Wishes came from children, youth, and adults all over the world. If you look (very!) closely you will find cranes from Barack Obama and Dr. Jane Goodall! The Tree of Hope will be on display in the City Hall Rotunda until early January 3. Go see it in person if you can - it is spectacular!

88th Annual Lighting of the San Francisco Holiday Tree
The SF Rec & Park Department kicked off the holiday season at the 88th Annual Lighting of the San Francisco Holiday Tree in Golden Gate Park. Rec & Park went all out: carnival rides and games, a
very
popular snow play area, lots of wonderful performers, and even a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus, who rolled in on an SF Fire Department ladder truck! Rec & Park also debuted Winter Lights, a new light show projected on the exterior of the Conservatory of Flowers. The Holiday Tree will be lit for a couple more weeks, and Winter Lights will continue through January.

Toy & Book Festival at City Hall
DCYF hosted a table at one of our favorite events of the year: the annual Toy & Book Festival! Hundreds of children, parents, and teachers from Wu Yee Children's Services and SFUSD elementary schools came to City Hall to get free toys from the SF Fire Department, free books from the SF Public Library, and meet with Santa and his "helpers" - this year he brought Spider-Man, Minions, and The Grinch! The kiddos who came by our table helped decorate a big holiday banner that is now hanging in the lobby of our office.
Thank you to the wonderful folks at the SF Department of Child Support Services for hosting the Festival!
