Donors, Volunteers Get Thanksgiving Meals Ready
Volunteers prepare bags of food |
Volunteers and The Frederick Community Action Agency bagged up and handed out 1,000 turkeys and side dishes from Wegmans, on Nov. 21, during the agency's annual Thanksgiving meal giveaway. Aldi and CarMax each donated $1,000 for the cause.
Wegmans delivered 1,000 turkeys, and all of the ingredients for a complete meal -- rolls, sweet potatoes and reusable bags -- to Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. Volunteers and Community Action Agency staff got busy filling bags with turkeys, potatoes, sweet potatoes and rolls.
"I look forward to this every year," said Mayor Randy McClement. "It embodies what's best about our city. It's great to fill bags with meals for as many people as possible. The volunteerism and Wegmans', Aldi's and CarMax's generosity are what Thanksgiving is all about."
Anyone who would like to help with this annual event, or other Community Action Agency food and nutrition programs, may contact Sarah McAleavy, supervisor of Food and Shelter Services for the Community Action Agency:
