Trinity Tidbits-Week of Advent 2

TOTH logo
On this, the feast of St. Nichola of Myra, I am pleased to announce that St. Nicholas himself will be making his annual visit to Trinity on the Hill.  During the 10:30 service this Sunday, St. Nicholas will delight us with his tales of festivity and joy.  He might even bring some sweet treats for us all.  This will be a moment you will not want to miss, especially if you have have young children in your family.  See you Sunday!
     Peace,
     Chris

What is Fr. Chris teaching on Sundays?
"Our Mothering God: Explorations of the feminine aspects of God in Scripture and Liturgy,"  at 9:30 am in Sherrill Hall.
All are welcome!

Strategic Visioning Update

Our Strategic Visioning Process continues with the recent release of the electronic survey.  Please check your email if you have not had the chance to take the survey.  As the data is gathered and collected, the consultants will begin to notice emerging themes in the answers, both from the Beacon Groups and the survey.  These themes will give us insight into what the congregation holds as supremely important.  The Discernment Committee is scheduled to have a teleconference with Jeanette McDonald, our consultant from ECF, in mid-December.  Keep your eyes peeled for more updates.
NEW LEADERSHIP FOR TOTH
As we approach a new year, opportunities will be opening up for you to serve on the Vestry, the governing board of the parish. Vestry members serve for three years and serve as representatives from the Vestry to a ministry of the parish.
If you sense God is calling you to serve our parish as a leader on the Vestry, please get in touch with Fr. Chris, soon.
THE GIVING SEASON:
OUTREACH GIVING ACTIVITIES -  Cathy Walters

ADOPT-A-FAMILY.   All the families we were given have been adopted - thanks to all who generously signed up!

CHRISTMAS BASKETS .  Checks for this purpose (providing  Smith's cards to some struggling brothers and sisters in our own parish family) may be made out to TOTH, with "Christmas Baskets" on the memo line.  Put in offering plate or send to church office.  Deadline December 19.

MITTEN TREE is up in Kelly Hall!   Any CHILDREN'S cold weather items will help fill out the tree (especially kids' mittens, gloves, hats) Both store bought or hand made are welcome! (There are plenty of scarves.)  These donations will go to St. Jerome's, which operates "The Closet" to help ensure the school children in Chama stay warm.

2018 CALENDARS ARE STILL BEING COLLECTED . We found a new outlet for them to be sent to several prisons in the state. Box outside the office door.

CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS BAZAAR 2017 was a huge success!   After having a big turnout of 201 shoppers last year, this year brought 312!!   A busy day, but so rewarding!  More details to come.

(NEW) SHOE BOX MINISTRY. "New" because we are working with our Diocesan Borderland Ministries this year. More information may be found on the web site dioceserg.org or in the newsletter "Together."  We have most of what we need for the boxes, but we can still use more travel size shampoo and lotion bottles. A few of TOTH's Elders gift wrapped 52 boxes this week. Next step: Packing the boxes - see below.

SHOE BOX PACKING PARTY!!  ALL AGES INVITED!!  It all happens THIS Sunday, December 10 after the 10:30 service in Kelly Hall.  We have all kinds of donations, thanks to a few generous folks and the 52 waiting boxes, as mentioned above. We'll have refreshments for when you need a break, or to get you going after the church service.  The more, the merrier, AND the faster thejob gets done so we can get on to our other pre-Christmas busyness.  Just imagine a child opening his or her special box and experiencing the love that goes into it.   See you there!

The Next Smith's Bucks order is due THIS Tuesday, Dec. 12
Remember: You can use your Smith's card to purchase gift cards!
Kroger, the parent company for Smith's gives TOTH a percentage of your dollars when you load up cash value one of their gift cards ordered through TOTH. And you get your full value on your card! Also a plus is the fact that Smith's Bucks card users have noticed that these cards work easier at the register than any other payment method.
If you don't have a card yet, just put a check in the plate on Sunday and write "Smith's Bucks new card" on the memo line. We'll order you a card and let you know when it arrives (usually by Friday). When you reload your card, the funds usually appear Thursday of the same week.
The next deadlines for Smith's orders are on the Tuesdays during the week immediately after LANL paydays: Dec. 12 & 26, Jan. 9 and 23.
Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation!

TOTH 2017 Christmas Musical
Auditions and rehearsals This year's TOTH Christmas Musical, "The Light of God" is based on the Luke Gospel account; besides the usual characters, it features rapping sheep protesting about taxes, the Prophet Isaiah and an over-worked angelic choir director. The Musical forms part of the 5 pm Christmas Eve (12/24/17) Family Eucharist. All young people from K-10 are invited to take part. CDs of the songs and scripts are available at rehearsals (see below).
IMPORTANT: Auditions for speaking parts will be held in the Choir Room on Saturday 2 December, from 9 am to 12 noon (conveniently during the Christmas Bazaar, to minimize your journeys to and from TOTH!). Rehearsals continue on Sunday afternoons until Christmas. In addition there will be a couple of mid-week rehearsals later in December. Each Sunday rehearsal will include a real fruit snack break (no gluten or milk products) at about 4 pm and end with supper at 5 pm (See the starred dates below for the exceptions to this). Pick up will be 15 minutes after the Supper start time. If you do not want your kid to have Supper, please pick them up at the Supper start time.

DIOCESE OF THE RIO GRANDE
From "In the Loop"

The Feast of St. Nicholas  (December 6)
A lmighty God, in your love you gave your servant Nicholas of Myra a perpetual name for deeds of kindness both on land and sea: Grant, we pray, that your Church may never cease to work for the happiness of children, the safety of sailors, the relief of the poor, and the help of those tossed by tempests of doubt or grief; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Annual Tuba Concert
December 22nd at 7pm in Kelly Hall!

Hello, Coro de Camara Friends.
Our "Deck the Hall" concerts are only a few weeks away!  In addition to holiday favorites by Coro and a solo set by our pianist Natasha Stojanovska, professional singers Christina Martos and Carlos Archuleta will be our special guests.  Their wonderful singing will truly be a holiday treat!  (If you would like to help sponsor Christina and/or Carlos, please let me know. Thank you.)
By popular demand, we are adding a Sunday afternoon performance at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos.  Because seating is limited and our last concert there was "standing room only," we encourage you either to purchase tickets in advance through our website (www.corodecamara-nm.org, ticket link available soon), or attend the Friday or Saturday concerts where the venues are larger.
Here are the updated dates and times of our "Deck the Hall" performances.
