Give your students
choices
:
Free will motivates human beings. Our interest and decision-making thrive in an environment where there is some kind of choice. The same goes for your students. Give them choices in the classroom so that they feel move involved in the lesson. For example, you could have three different activities picked out that relate to the lesson and allow the class (or students individually) to choose which they're going to complete. Now they're doing an activity that they chose, as opposed to one you gave them. Or, let the class choose whether you do the "lecture" or "activity" first. The key here is to have some control in the hands of the students while you control the class on a macro-level. Thus, the more organized you are, the more choices you will be able to provide. If you don't give them a choice....they will find one on their own!
