Meeting Mickey - Expectations Vs. Reality

When my son was little, he loved Mickey Mouse. So, when we told him that we would be visiting Disney World, he was super excited. He said, "I can't wait to give Mickey Mouse a big hug." It was adorable. What happened when we got to Disney World? Our son saw Mickey Mouse right away, and then he screamed like he was the star of a horror film. Apparently, Mickey was a bit (a very big bit) larger than he anticipated.

Funny, isn't it? Or at least it is, now. Many times, we enter into agreements, assignments, roles, jobs, etc. not realizing the extent/size of what is involved.

Overtime Rule Changes Blocked

On November 22, 2016, U.S. District Court Judge Amos Mazzant granted an Emergency Motion for Preliminary Injunction and thereby enjoined the Department of Labor from implementing and enforcing the Overtime Final Rule on December 1, 2016. The case was heard in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division (State of Nevada ET AL v. United States Department of Labor ET AL No: 4:16-CV-00731). The rule updated the standard salary level.

Standard Mileage Rates for 2017

Beginning on Jan. 1, 2017, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be: 
 * 53.5 cents per mile for business miles driven, down from 54 cents for 2016 

 * 17 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, down from 19 cents for 2016 

 * 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations
