Getting to Know You

Sara Kauppila
is a Flagstaff native who moved back here several years ago after spending most of her adult life in Los Alamos, NM. Sara has lots of office experience, having worked at a large public high school in New Mexico, both as receptionist and then bookkeeper. Before that she was the Business Manager for the Los Alamos Ski Club, which owned and operated Pajarito Ski Area, and spent many years in the ski industry. Sara has two kids. Her daughter, Tia, is a senior here at FALA and Tia's older brother, John, is a guitar tech. Sara is thrilled to be part of the fun and excitement at FALA and loves all the interesting students, parents and staff. She also loves the view of the peaks from her office window. In her spare time, Sara loves to hike with her two Siberian Huskies, Sashi and Logan, and spends lots of time kayaking or up at the lake with her fianc, Jim.

Lexi Pineda is a rare Flagstaff native. She graduated from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburgs, KY with a Bachelors in Communications and a minor in Spanish. Living near one of the poorest parts in the the United States, she developed a heart for community service and alongside other students worked in those communities wherever help was needed, this also included working as a volunteer in the clean up of Hurricane Katrina.

Flagstaff called her home. She came back, got married, adopted two wonderful pups--Rico and Romeo, and found a job working at Bank of America Home Loans until her move to FALA. When she isn't crunching numbers at work or home, you can find her either cooking, reading or hovering over her Cintiq or computer working on her next drawing or painting.

"
I realize now more than ever how well FALA's education has prepared me for college studying a performing art. The intensive courses and inspiring teachers taught me how to work hard and expect more from myself. I feel that when a student is taught to think artistically about academics and vise versa, as they are at FALA, they learn to take pride in and enjoy their work.."
- Rebecca Prizznick, Class of 2013
