PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Edronda Guiriba
AFWA - Silicon Valley Chapter President

This year has just flown by!

Reflecting back on the past year and back to my first experience with AFWA Silicon Valley I am grateful for the opportunities and network I have built. From helping National with their LEAP (Lead Emerge Advance with Passion) council for young leaders voicing their needs and wants with AFWA, to hearing and connecting with great local speakers, getting great CPE value from the National Conference, and being awarded a scholarship when I was a college student, it has been a rewarding experience.

As a former scholarship recipient I highly encourage supporting our scholarship fund, as it was a big help in my academic and professional career. Donate today! Click here to donate (do it before year end to include it as a tax-deduction on your 2016 tax returns!).

In January AFWA Silicon Valley will kick things off with a special presentation, "Financial Strategies for Women" from Ann Escobar, Financial Advisor with Waddell and Reed. What a perfect way to start the year. Hope to see you there!

Gagging the Inner Voice: Be Kinder to Yourself
Posted December 07, 2016

_______________________________________________________________

The new year is just around the corner, and many of us have already started our annual organizing and planning for the next year:  Cleaning out desk drawers, organizing schedules, updating marketing materials, fine tuning product information, shredding outdated materials, files, and receipts.  After I have feng shuied, the planning begins for next year.  Planning for the new year, being creative and figuring out what went and well, quite frankly, what fell on its face during the year is an introspective time.  But when it is all done, I know I'll feel great and ready to take on the next year with joy and enthusiasm.   I have an organized game plan moving forward for next year and have tweaked the 3 year, 5 year and lifetime goals.

Most of us start the new year with a game plan and as the weeks and months go by, that game plan changes.  It changes because that marketing plan didn't work, a team member quit or the economy tanked.  Questions like, "When will the interest rates go up?" must be considered, and suddenly, these things that are totally out of our control affect our decision making. We should expect the unexpected.  I can't control my clients.  I can't control the rules and regulations, but I can control my enthusiasm, either positively or negatively.  (This year, I am going have my fairy godmother wave her magic wand and fix the situation just like Cinderella, right?)
