Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow:
Thank you Deborah-Jo Essrog
Dear Ramah Community,
It is with mixed emotions that I share the news with you that Deborah-Jo Essrog, our Development Director for the last four years, has decided to depart our organization in order to pursue another professional opportunity and to share her considerable talents as the new Director of Development of the Susan G. Komen: Central and South Jersey Organization, beginning December 4th 2013.
I know that all of you will join me in wishing Deborah-Jo hatzlachah rabbah, good luck, in this important new endeavor; and that our shared sense of excitement with her over this new opportunity is only tempered by our own sense of loss at her departure.
Allow me to take a moment to personally thank Deborah-Jo for all of her hard work, her tireless dedication, and her paramount commitment to our organization, its goals, and its mission. When Deborah-Jo arrived as our Development Director over four years ago, our organization and its ability to secure funds for institutional advancement, was immediately improved. During her tenure she presided over several of the most successful campaigns we have ever embarked upon: Ramah 60, Ramah's Tribute Benefit honoring our Past Presidents, Top Chef, our Legacy Campaign, and more.
But truth be told, these events and campaigns are only a small part of the important work she did for our Ramah community. With her warmth, her easy-going nature, and her shared-history with the organization, Deborah-Jo built bridges with our alumni community, established relationships with new Ramah supporters, and re-established connections with those who had been on the periphery.
We wish Deborah-Jo every possible success as she leaves us with her legacy of hard work and success; as well as the difficult task of finding her successor.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Joel Seltzer
Director

A Note from the Director
Celebrating Hanukkah brings us together, and as we light the menorah and bask in its light we can't help but remember the light of Kayitz 2013. We remember those shining summer memories of children trying new things, gaining confidence, and acquiring new skills all while making friends and having fun. We miss our Ramah Family during this festive holiday and we want to keep the magic of Ramah going all year long. Explore the dancing, sports, singing, art and more that were part of your child's daily schedule. Continue the acts of kindness, tzedakah and Tikkun Olam that is such a big part of the Ramah Day Camp experience.
Join us on Sunday, December 8th for our second annual Sport Day with Jim at our Cozy Up to Camp Open House. Meet us in the gym from 2-4pm for an awesome time with your camp friends. We will also have some fun winter projects with our staff. We miss you all and hope to see you there! I hope that you and your family had a wonderful holiday.

Spotlight on: Tikkun Olam
By Eileen Graub, Program Coordinator and Rosh Edah
Ramah Day Camp not only provides campers with a place to participate in exciting camp activities, but also a place to learn about and practice Tikkun Olam, an important Jewish value. Tikkun Olam is understood to mean "repairing the world" through human actions. It is important for Jews to participate in repairing the world by participating in tzedakah and g'milut hasadim (acts of loving kindness). Throughout the summer, the chanichim explore their Jewish identities by doing Tikkun Olam as an RDC community.
This summer our chanichim helped the JRA (Jewish Relief Agency) deliver food to elderly in need. We also had a Penny Harvest and canned food drive coordinated by our shiur teacher, Karyn Salkin. It was amazing to see the community rally together, bringing in small donations to make a big impact.
Our performing arts track went to the Abramson Center and the Samuel A Green House to sing and dance for the residents, bringing joy and laughter to everyone involved. The chanichim were so excited to perform for these communities, and can't wait to do it again next summer.
And who can forget about our incredible Ramah Day Camp community garden? We tended to and harvested fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs which we then donated to the Mitzvah Food Pantry. The pantry is always so grateful for the donation of fresh produce.
We'd like to continue our focus on Tikkun Olam during the year by coordinating a Mitzvah Day partnering Ramah Day Camp with JRA. Ramah Day Camp chanichim spend the summer in a community that embodies Jewish values and respect, where Jewish living and learning are seamlessly integrated into the daily camp experience. We are proud to provide the Ramah Experience to your children each summer, and hope to grow our Tikkun Olam program in the summers to come.
