Go To Crew Update

Thank you to all who responded with clothing and cash donations to support our recent request for Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK).  Here is an excerpt of the request you were so quick to help....

"We are being inundated with requests from many of the organizations we support, but we have also received an unprecedented number of calls from Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK).  We just can't get enough infant and toddler clothing.."

The Go To Crew is a small group of supporters who receive an e-mail if a special need arises.  Being a member of the Go To Crew does not obligate its members to donate every time there is a need.  If you would like to be a member of the Go To Crew, or know someone who would like to be on this e-mail list, just respond to this e-mail, or click here.

Dear Friends of Circle of Hope,

As we near the end of 2013 I am filled with gratitude to all of our amazing volunteers and our generous donors.  We've recently welcomed 7 new volunteers to our Circle of Hope team - yay!  We've broken our own record with this highest number of weekly deliveries this past month.  To quote Peggy, one of the nurses at Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, "Its always a good time to say thank you!"  She shared her gratitude to our "tireless volunteers.  Your efforts make such an important difference to the homeless families we serve.  Carry on - we all need you!"

You've come to our door with bags of beautiful clothes, smiles, and hugs for our team.  Talk about Holiday Cheer!  In this issue you'll read about holiday events, generous business partners, as well as the boundless energy of compassionate teenagers.  You'll also see how your donations transform the life experience of refugees from all over the globe.

On behalf of all the homeless shelter staffs, guests, and refugees I thank you for your generosity.

With deepest thanks,

Barbara Waterhouse
Executive Director

P.S.  Thanks to all who have helped us fill our Annual Fund.  We're so close to reaching our goal to do more for the infants, children, women and men we serve.

"I Think I Got the Job"

Imagine opening the mail to find an envelope filled with handwritten thank you notes, many written in two languages.  That's exactly what happened at COH recently. We received notes written in English class at Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) by refugees from Somalia, Iraq, Guatemala, Cuba, Haiti, Kazakhstan, Morocco, and China thanking us for our delivery of donated clothing and coats.  It is simply amazing to read a note in English and then turn over the page to see Chinese or Arabic!

Riasa, from Cuba, tells us that JVS is "the place which opens the door for all people.  They are many people with great hearts."  She goes on to thank Circle of Hope, "I love my pink sweater.  It is my favorite color and also it keeps me warm.  Thank you for everything."

In another note Layla tells us she is from Somalia and she loves and misses her family.  After being here for 4 months and studying English at JVS Layla writes, "I love my new warm black jacket," and she hopes to wear it to a job interview because she needs a job.

Anne Marie is a mother of two from Haiti living in Hyde Park.  She says, "I've been here 5 months....I went last week to a job interview.  I think I got the job.  Thank you for bringing clothes.  I love my new yellow dress."

We at COH add our expression of gratitude to the touching and heartfelt thanks from all the refugees learning English.  And we thank you, our donors, for providing warmth, dignity, and confidence to those seeking a better life.  We'll be heading back to JVS later this week to fulfill the request for much needed winter coats, sweaters, business clothes, hats, and gloves.  We'll also carry your messages of hope with us.

Because of YOU...
Because of people like YOU, Circle of Hope is able to help hundreds of people in Boston area homeless shelters and programs serving refugees and disadvantaged youth.  Here are some of our stories from this month...

We're Almost There!
We're at 67% of our goal!

Thank you so much to those of you who have already donated to the Circle of Hope Annual Fund.  Our goal is to reach $20,000, and we are at 67%!  With 22 days until the end of the year and our campaign, we are optimistic that we will reach that.  If you are in a position to support Circle of Hope in this meaningful way, you can donate online by clicking here, or you can simply mail a check to Circle of Hope, P.O. Box 920724, Needham, MA  02492.  Because of you, Circle of Hope will be able to support more children, women, and men this year.

Thank you Needham Women's Club and Lyn Evans!

What a wonderful night of shopping, chatting, and cocktails we had with the Needham Women's Club last month.  The NWC held a member social event at Lyn Evans Potpourri Design in Wellesley, and Lyn Evans donated 15% of all purchases made to Circle of Hope.  We are so grateful to have the Needham Women's Club in our corner. Not only do they throw parties and honor us, they operate our drop-off time at Circle of Hope every Saturday, 9-11am.  A very special COH "thank you!"goes to Lyn Evans whose generosity is so very much appreciated.

Discover Music and Art's Coat Drive

One of the most festive events of the holiday season is Dedham's Annual Holiday Stroll and Tree Lighting.  And right in the  middle of it all is Discover Music and Art.  We are so thankful that during this big event, Marianne Ryan, Founder of Discover Music and Art led a coat drive to support Circle of Hope.  And isn't that what the holidays are all about?  Thank you for being such a great friend to us!

A Neighborhood Clothing Drive
L to R, Elizabeth Ruddy and Marisa Nardone-Mahoney

Thanks to the team effort of Elizabeth Ruddy and Marisa Nardone-Mahone, who led a clothing drive in their neighborhood, Circle of Hope was the recipient of lots of bags of gently-used clothing.  This dynamic duo has also joined our Wednesday afternoon sorting team. Thank you Marisa and Elizabeth!
