DECEMBER NEWS
December / 4 / 2017
Dear Forest Hills Family and Friends,

Holiday season is in full swing -- Thanksgiving was a blast and we are looking forward to celebrating the December holidays and the New Year! As we approach the holidays, it is important for us to remember and appreciate personal safety and security of valuables. Forest Hills is arranging for a representative from the DC Office of the Attorney General to speak to our residents on this topic. Watch for a date coming soon, with invitations extended to family and friends as space will allow.

Kitchen renovations are underway and going well. Demolition began on November 28th and our mobile kitchen is now fully operational for all dining services. Given these renovations, we are unable to accommodate any guests on December 25, 2017 or January 1, 2018. I apologize for any inconvenience, but the finished project will be well worth it! We're looking forward to a big opening celebration once its complete in the spring.

As always, it is my privilege to serve you and family members here at Forest Hills. Please do not hesitate to let me know whenever I can be of assistance to you.

Warm regards,

Kind Words from our Community
Remembering Mr. Wrenn

Our commitment to our residents is evident in the person-centered care we provide every day at Forest Hills. That care, however, is not always seen by our community -- and though we do not need recognition in order to do good work, it is always nice when we receive it. The following note was sent to us after a memorial service for a Forest Hills resident, and it is shared with permission from the author:

Dear Forest Hills staff,

Thanks so much for the lovely event you all contributed to, organized and participated in. Everyone overcame various hurdles at various times to make the event really special. It was a fitting sendoff for someone who also emerged from years of solitude and some bitterness to become the wonderful man he could be. Forest Hills' environment of kindness, care and individual attentions really nourished Gayle Wrenn's spirit. I think many of us are grateful for the harmonious convergence of good will and warm efforts that made the last days of his life very special. It was also very special for me who had known him for several years, mostly in his dungeon times, to see his evolution to someone special and beloved by many.

October 2017 Ceca Award Winner
Joyce Newton

Congratulations to Joyce Newton on winning the October 2017 Ceca Award! Last month we celebrated the award at Forest Hills with some of the nice things residents had to say:

"Early one morning I noticed Joyce's car stopped on Connecticut Ave. I slowed down to see if everything was okay but then she pulled off. It turns out that Joyce comes early in the morning to Forest Hills to visit and deliver the express newspaper to the residents! Joyce is now at Forest Side most of the time, but she still makes time to stop by and say hi, bring newspapers and put a smile on our residents faces. WOW!

"Forest Side is a fun place to work! Joyce recently joined our team and has jumped right in to bring smiles and laughter to our residents. She learned everyone's name very quickly and treats each of them with kindness and respect. They look forward to seeing Joyce because they know a fun activity is about to begin. We are so happy to have Joyce on the Forest Side team!"

Thank you, Joyce, for all you do for our residents and our community!
