Welcome
to Woodsy's Music of Medina
Greetings!
The
snow is piling up outside. I can't remember the last time that we
saw this much snow in December. We "Ohioans" were never ones to
let the snow slow us down though. In keeping with that spirit we
have doubled our efforts and are announcing the opening of our new
lesson studio on January 3rd! The new rooms will offer many new
educational opportunities in addition to our popular private
lessons. We have group lessons and clinics in the works along with
a group ukulele class beginning in February. You can get details
on signing up for that class below.
Also, keep watching your in box because we will be sending out
special holiday offers each week for the rest of December.
Happy Holidays!

Bradley, and Ben

Strings
To Go!
 |
Left to right: Martin
Backpacker Guitar, Baritone Uke, Concert Uke |
Big things come in
small packages has never been a truer statement than with these
pint sized pluckers. If you're a person on the go or just want
something to hide behind the desk at the office we'll have you
prepared whenever the mood to play strikes you.
The
Ohana Baritone Uke is a larger body ukulele, but is
still less than half the size of a full sized guitar. The larger
body has a deeper tone with more volume, and is tuned to the top
four strings of a guitar making transition to uke from guitar even
easier.
The
Ohana Concert Uke falls between a soprano and a baritone in
size, and is the most common uke for beginners. Typically tuned
GCEA the concert uke uses very similar chord formations to the
guitar, and with the Ukulele For Guitar
Players book you'll be a whiz in no time!
All three of them
come with zippered carrying bags so that they'll be ready to go
whenever you are.

rooms and a large ensemble are downstairs. We would like to
thank the parents and students of our lesson program for there
patience during the construction of the new rooms. And also
announce that we will be opening them on January 3rd! As you can
see from the picture Dave, Kim, and Jeff have been working hard to
put the finishing touches on. The doors are on the rooms and all
the painting is going to be finished today! The carpet goes in on

Teacher
Spotlight: Mike McClosky-Guitar and Bass
Mike has been teaching with us
for nearly 3 years now, and his schedule is consistently full. He
has a B.A. in classical guitar performance and a Master's in music
education from The University of Akron making him one of the most
qualified teachers in the area. But you don't have to take my word
for it, let's talk with Mike!
What made you want to start
playing, and at what age did you start?
I wanted to play guitar for as long as I can
remember. My mom actually has pictures of me with toy guitars from
when I was 3. When I turned 7 they got me a real guitar under the
condition that I practice and take lessons. I've been playing ever
since.
You
finished building your own bass guitar last year, can you tell us a
little about that?
A couple of years ago I decided that I
wanted something that looks and sounds just like a vintage Fender
Jazz Bass. I figured that the only way I could afford that kind of
quality was to build it myself. Unfortunately by the time I
assembled the guitar and added the finish I hadn't really saved any
money, but I had a great time doing it.
What's the name of the band you
are in, and what do you guys play?
Grumblefish. We play mostly rock
standards from the '70s and '80s. I also fill in with various jazz
and blues bands and I do classical with a flute player at weddings
and parties.
How long have you been
teaching?
I got my first job teaching right out
of High School at the old Falls Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls. I
was actually hired to replace my teacher. I have been teaching
guitar and bass ever since. It's hard to believe it's been over 30
years since then.
Briefly, what is your teaching
philosophy?
My teaching is very
individualized because my students cover a wide range of ages and
interests. Everyone is coming into it with their own prior
knowledge, and their own goals. I try to emphasize the fun aspects
of playing, but always with an underlying foundation of music
theory and knowledge of styles.

easyukulele.com
The recent boom we've seen in uke
interest had me on the search for a good tutorial site and I
have definitely found one. easyukulele.com has video tutorials,
chord charts, tablature, music, and even a tuner. If you have a
uke and are looking for some help, or are just curious
about them this is certainly the place to go!
