Here are some tips for more effective sales presentations when selling to homeowners:

1) Talk about implementing their vision: Tell a story with a beginning, middle, and end that helps your customer visualize the current situation and how you will help them achieve their landscape goal.

2) Summarize your understanding: Start your presentation by reviewing what you know about the customer: what he/she is looking to accomplish. Then, check to make sure you have summarized correctly. This kind of upfront summary lays the foundation for building trust and confidence in your ability to help the customer.

3) Ask real questions, not just confirmation questions: Don't just ask, "How does that sound to you?" or, "What are your thoughts?" Ask some really good questions, including ones to which you don't have the answers. It's a matter of being specific with your questions. "Which of these two options would work better for you?" The point is to get feedback along the way and to get the customer to make small decisions that add up to a big decision to hire you.

4) Focus on next steps: Be sure to ask for the business. If the customer isn't ready to make a decision, schedule a time to follow up.   Also ask: "Is there any additional information we can provide?" Keep the conversation going and find out when a decision will be made.

What Is Backflow?  Why Are Backflow Preventers Needed?

Backflow Preventers are a common item in irrigation supply houses and are mandated by code in many areas, but have you ever wondered what backflow is, and why backflow preventers are required?

What Is Backflow?
Backflow is the undesirable reversal of flow of a possible source of contamination into the potable water system. Backflow is a risk in all irrigation applications, and a solution to protect drinking water systems must be provided.

When Does Backflow Occur?
Backflow is caused by pressure changes, including conditions of gravity, vacuum, etc. The two factors that contribute to backflow are backsiphonage and backpressure.

What is a Backflow Preventer?
Backflow preventers are designed to protect the public, potable water supply from the hazards of backflow (contaminants and pollutants). For more information on the importance of backflow and how to select the right backflow prevention device, visit www.zurn.com or click here

Ideal Backflow Preventers for Irrigation Systems
  • Pressure Vacuum Breaker: protects against backsiphonage in low and high hazard situations
  • Reduced Pressure Principle Assembly: protects against backsiphonage and backpressure conditions in low and high hazard situations

Choose Bronze vs. Brass for Best Results
Avoid premature failure from de-zincification

Bronze gate valves have been the standard for commercial / mechanical applications for the past 100 plus years. Brass gate valves entered the market from "import" markets and are built to less exacting standards.

Almost every US valve manufacturer or importer now has either a Taiwan made or Chinese-made brass valve in their product offering. Brass valves are typically significantly cheaper than the bronze equivalent.

Why choose bronze over brassBrass valves that include copper-zinc alloys of over 15% zinc are subject to de-zincification. This weakens the valve and causes premature failure. Common signs that dezincification is occurring:
  • Presence of a loosely adhering white deposit of zinc oxide on the exterior of the valve either coating the entire body or in specific places.
  • Presence of mineral stains on the outer surface of the valve.
  • Water weeping from the valve body or stem/bonnet seal.
We carry the NIBCO T-113 bronze valve that will not fail due to de-zincification. If you are installing a brass valve in-ground or in a hard to access place, skip the small savings from a brass valve and choose a solid BRONZE one.
