With so many cool arts events in the next few weeks, we tried to include something for everyone in this newsletter. Here's a sampling of what's happening on the Delaware scene this weekend and the days ahead.

Howard Pyle, a Delaware treasure, was one of Americas most popular illustrators and storytellers at a time when top illustrators were celebrities. The documentary reveals Howard Pyles (1853-1911) talents as prolific author, illustrator, and teacher. The film was written, directed and produced by Wilmington native, Paul Mento of Silver Hand Productions. [2011, US, Runtime: 46 mins, Not rated] Seating is limited and reservations are required. A theatrical multimedia concert, created and directed by Xiang Gao, that takes the audience back to the last golden period of the imperial China, the Qing Dynasty (16441912). Through music, visual presentations and drama, the audience experiences the impact of the encounters between cultures, as artistically interpreted by performing artists and experts of multiple disciplines. This concert is the first of the Encounters Series, which introduces historically significant music, languages, literature, history, philosophy, religions and other art forms under one guise to promote cultural understanding and exchange. | |

Nuala Kennedy is an Irish singer and flute player with hauntingly beautiful vocals, adventurous instrumentation, and an imaginative mix of influences. Nuala started to play traditional Irish music at the age of seven and at fifteen was accepted to study at the Royal Academy of Music in Dublin. At the age of eighteen, Nuala moved to Scotland to study and was immediately captivated by the vital traditional music scene. In 2007 she moved to Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland to undertake a year of intensive study. The combination of the best influences of the two cultures, Scotland and Ireland, is what has made Nuala Kennedy the artist that she is today. Seating is limited and reservations are recommended. | |
