Publicly-owned land must serve the public good
In Oakland, we've helped introduce the "People's Proposal for Public Land" to ensure that publicly-owned land is used to provide low-income Oaklanders with affordable homes, good-paying jobs, and healthy communities. The plan will empower Black and Latinx families that have been targets of housing discrimination for decades. At a hearing on Wednesday, Oaklanders turned out en masse to show support. The Proposal is now one of three approaches that are being carefully considered by the Oakland City Council Community and Economic Development Committee.
