Denveright:
Denver Moves: Transit
Denver is embarking on a 20-year vision. Help us take the first step.

The Denver Moves: Transit
team has been busy these past few months gathering community input about the transit improvements that you think will help make transit a great choice for people who live in, work in, and visit Denver. We are excited to share the results…and present our new online survey! We have a few other great things to share from our Youth Stakeholder Group and the upcoming
Blueprint
and
Denver Moves: Pedestrian and Trails
public meetings.

We Need Your Input on Major Transit Corridors!
The Denver Moves: Transit team has started to identify, evaluate, and prioritize where major transit capital investments (e.g., rail, bus rapid transit, new transfer facilities, etc.) could be in Denver. We need your input to help inform the final recommendations.
Please take the new online survey to tell us where you’d like to see major transit investments and services in Denver.

Community Feedback Results: Spring/Summer 2017

Build Your Own Transit System Survey
Between March and July, the
Denver Moves: Transit
team received over 1,500 responses through our online Build Your Own Transit System survey. The survey asked the community to choose transit improvements and their responses help inform the
Denver Moves: Transit
plan and shape the plan’s recommendations. Survey respondents preferred improvements that would make the experience of riding transit better and encourage more people to ride the transit. The top transit improvements respondents selected include:
- More rail service in Denver
- Higher frequency bus service
- Improved pedestrian and bicycle access to transit
- Better transit connections
- Rider information/technology at bus stops

Workshops, Community Events, and Transit Stop Outreach
Since March, the Denver Moves: Transit team hosted a series community workshops at community venues and pop-up events at transit stops and stations around the city. We also attended several community events. We received input from over 900 residents, commuters, and visitors. The top transit improvements workshop and event attendees said they wanted include:
- Higher frequency (running every 15 minutes) and enhanced bus service (routes with fewer stops)
- More fare pass programs, such as business-subsidized transit passes or neighborhood programs
- More high capacity transit service in Denver, such as light rail or bus rapid transit (BRT)
- More bus service earlier or later in the day or on weekends
- More amenities at transit stops and stations, such as shelters, seating, wayfinding, lighting, and bike parking

Lights, Camera, Action! Dreaming Big Video

The
Denver Moves: Transit Youth Stakeholder Group worked with the transit plan team to develop a video about the importance of transit. The Youth Stakeholder Group learned more about the importance of mobility and connectivity in our community as well as behind the scenes of professional video production.

Community Spotlight:
Windsor Gardens Bus Buddies
|
|
Windsor Gardens, a 55+ active adult community located in the Lowry area of Denver, is home to nearly 3,500 residents and the Bus Buddies program. Founded in 2009, the Bus Buddies program was created due to a reduction of service and potential route restructuring of the primary bus route serving this community. Two Windsor Gardens residents, frequent RTD riders, volunteered to increase the use of transit by Windsor Gardens residents and their visitors by planning one or two trips each month to restaurants and events. “Learning by doing” is the program’s motto. The program teaches participants how to read bus schedules and where to the catch the bus. Recent trips have included visiting farmer’s markets and arts festivals in Denver and Boulder. Leaders of the Bus Buddies program hope other neighborhoods will replicate this “transit teaching” example to promote transit riding throughout metropolitan Denver and beyond.
Thank you to
Joanne Muzzy
and
Paul Steinhauer
for providing our team information about this great program!
The
Denver Moves: Transit Project Manager met with about 100 Windsor Gardens residents in July to talk about Denveright, development of the transit plan, and how the community can stay engaged throughout the process. The group discussed transit accessibility, frequency and regional connections. We are looking forward to Windsor Gardens residents’ input throughout the planning process.
