Many thanks for taking the time to read this important message.
I am inviting you to participate in the City-Wide Community Conversation on Quality Schools scheduled for Monday, October 1 from 5:30 - 9:00 pm at Amidon-Bowen Elementary School. I am co-hosting this meeting with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education along with my colleague, State Board of Education Member, Mary Lord (Ward 2).
A study that determined a lack of quality school seats throughout the city led the Deputy Mayor for Education to sponsor Ward based discussions in Wards 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8- home to a number of priority neighborhood clusters that were identified in the report. This upcoming meeting is being combined for Wards 2 and 6 and is being held in response to requests for a convening similar to those held in other wards.
The ward level dialogues are designed to be problem solving, allowing a diverse group of community stakeholders to discuss important issues that affect the delivery of quality public education at a neighborhood level. We anticipate that these community based conversations will focus on how parents, schools, communities and the city can work together to ensure access to high -quality education opportunities for all children in Washington DC.
The Deputy Mayor for Education will incorporate feedback from this meeting to create community based recommendations to DCPS, the Public Charter School Board, and charter schools. In the interest of getting a wide range of participation, any efforts to help publicize this event with your networks would be greatly appreciated. Please see the attached flyer for event details and visit the EventBrite site for online registration. Although pre-registration is NOT required, it will be helpful in planning for the correct number of seats, refreshments, etc.)
Thanks again for your committed interest in our schools.
State Board of Education Member, Ward 6
