Melanoma Research Foundation

Hello !

The Melanoma Research Foundation is proud to partner with Ironman® for a series of events to raise awareness about melanoma prevention and raise money for the next treatment breakthrough.

We need Dermatologists, Derm Physician's Assistants or Derm Nurse Practitioners to provide free skin screening services a the Ironman Coeur d'Alene Triathlon in Coeur d'Alene, ID May 20 to 25.
Volunteers are needed to help people fill out paperwork for their screening and hand out materials about melanoma and MRF.

On May 19 we held screenings in advance of the Ironman 70.3 Florida event. In a block of about 3 hours a local AAD dermatologist conducted spot checks on 62 people. He found two lesions that are highly suspicious of being melanoma, and several lesions that are likely basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma. He also had the opportunity to talk to a number of people about the dangers of tanning. At least one young woman told us that she would never go in a tanning bed again.

Please sign up to help, or contact your dermatologist or oncologist to ask them to support our work. We also ask that you forward this to anyone you know who might like to help us provide life saving screenings.   We ask that you, please, help us continue on this success and if you can, please ask your dermatologist to help with these free skin cancer screenings.  Any referrals for volunteers that you can make would be greatly appreciated.

As you know, athletes who train outdoors are likely at higher risk for developing skin cancers. This is an excellent opportunity to reach this population. Individuals will be screened on site, with no appointment necessary.  Please help us find qualified providers who can help with these skin checks.

Volunteers and doctors are asked to commit to at least one 4-hour shift, beginning Thursday morning at 9am and ending Monday afternoon. See all shifts here. AAD Members are asked to add this event to the Free Skin Screening program on the AAD site.
