Destination fun!
Enjoying the lazy, hazy days of summer? Well, there is still lots of summer fun and sun to be had, and Durham is the destination for it! Check out the events featured below, or visit our events calendar on durhamtourism.ca  for more ideas on what to do in Durham this August.

Before we know it, fair season will be here. Visit the Blackstock Fair on August 25 , and the Port Perry Fair the weekend of September 1 to 3 . Watch for a full article on all the fall fair fun in Durham Region in our September e-newsletter.

Pop-up in the park
Stop by the Oshawa Museum's Pop-Up Museum in the Park every Monday this summer!

From 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. each week, the Museum will have family friendly artifacts on display, and free activities for kids. Find the pop-up at the playground in Lakeview Park, Oshawa between the Oshawa Museum and the Jubilee Pavilion.
Pioneer Day in Scugog
Pioneer Day takes place on August 26 in Port Perry. Experience Scugog Shores Museum Village come to life as it rings out the sounds of the blacksmith, wood wright, and many other heritage demonstrators. Taste traditional treats and observe local craftspeople at work. Watch beautiful presentations, live performances, and heritage demonstrations including: blacksmith, printing press, gas engines, a steam engine, model trains, log sawing, rope making, cider press, rug hooking, wood carving, loom and weaving, soapstone carving, butter making and candle making! Enjoy pioneer games and crafts just as pioneer children did. Attend the vendors market featuring crafts, clothing, jewelry, food and more! 
Brock's Big Bite
Brock’s Big Bite returns to MacLeod Park in Cannington on August 11 . This festival of food and friends features musical entertainment throughout the day. Enjoy face painting, balloon animals, a petting zoo, museum tours and a marketplace featuring A L'Arte Entertainers and local artists working with a variety of media. The traditional "long lunch" features fresh local food, this year it's pulled pork. The meal will be served from noon to 2 p.m. and advance meal tickets are recommended. Ride 4 United Way Gran Fondo
On August 12 , celebrate the tenth anniversary of the annual Ride4UnitedWay cycling event, supporting the United Way Durham Region. The ride begins and ends at the Durham District School Board Education Centre, located at 400 Taunton Road East, Whitby. Registration and Rider check-in opens at 6:30 a.m.

A fully supported ride with lunch, showers and massages at the finish, cycling enthusiasts will enjoy course distances of 160 km, 100 km, 60 km and a Mystery Route. A competition option within the ride is available on the 100 km and 160 km courses.
Temperance and Temptation Tour
For those with an interest in history, the Temperance and Temptation Tour is a unique experience for history buffs and road trippers to explore. The Drama in Durham: War on Whiskey route features stories unique to the seven locations along the route, and each stop has either historic significance or fits into the Temperance and Temptation theme. Visit temperanceandtemptation.ca for more information on both the self-guided and experience tours, to download audio and for more information on a special exhibition. Tours will run September 1 and 2, 15 and 16 , and again on October 20 and 21 .
Chevrolet Silverado 250
NASCAR's Camping World Truck Series returns to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Clarington the weekend of August 25 and 26 , for its only Canadian appearance the Chevrolet Silverado 250. Joining the trucks will be the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, the IMSA Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama, the Canadian Touring Car Championship, and the Nissan Micra Cup. One of the biggest and busiest events of the season, the roar of the NASCAR trucks and their close-contact, fender-rubbing race action is one you don’t want to miss!
Visit Villa Vida Loca
If you’re looking for a boutique farm market where everything you encounter is farm fresh, homegrown, handmade or personally chosen, then a visit to Villa Vida Loca Farm Market is in order! Located in Sunderland, in the Township of Brock, Villa Vida Loca boasts an apiary and free-range hens, in addition to a range of other farm fresh products. Quality fresh produce and herbs in season, maple syrup, specialty vinegar, gift baskets, essential oils and wellness products, as well as vintage-inspired home accessories, join the pure honey, beeswax products and free-range eggs for sale. Ontario Lacrosse Festival
The 2018 Ontario Lacrosse Festival returns to locations across Durham Region from August 3 to 12 . Featuring ten days of Canada’s national summer sport, the festival hosts provincial and national lacrosse championships for 5 to 21-year-olds. The festival is the largest annual youth sport event in Canada, and the largest youth lacrosse event in the world! Approximately 500 teams and more than 9,000 athletes come together each year for this event. In addition to the indoor tournament competition, an outdoor Festival Fun Zone is on-site at Iroquois Park Sports Centre, providing unique, engaging and experiential opportunities for festival fans.
